{"id":319077,"date":"2025-11-28T18:31:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T18:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/319077\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T18:31:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T18:31:10","slug":"capitals-logan-thompson-early-frontrunner-for-2026-vezina-trophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/319077\/","title":{"rendered":"Capitals\u2019 Logan Thompson early frontrunner for 2026 Vezina Trophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Logan Thompson is putting together another special season with the Washington Capitals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/06\/12\/logan-thompson-fourth-vezina-trophy-voting-nhl-best-goaltender\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">After finishing fourth in Vezina Trophy voting last season<\/a>, Thompson is the early favorite for the 2026 version of the award, according to 16 NHL.com writers.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson received 8 first-place votes as the league\u2019s best goaltender and 67 points total (points were awarded on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis), leading Scott Wedgewood (51), Connor Hellebuyck (50), and Spencer Knight (38).<\/p>\n<p>So far this season, Thompson has a 9-6-1 record with a 2.16 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. Among goalies who have suited up in 10 games this season, Thompson leads the league at five-on-five in save percentage (.934) and goals against average (1.55). His 12.6 goals saved above expected at all strengths is third-best in the league, trailing only Jeremy Swayman (17.5) and Spencer Knight (14.9).<\/p>\n<p>Thompson\u2019s strong start comes as he looks to <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/10\/08\/logan-thompson-capitals-no-respect-nhl\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">push his way onto Team Canada\u2019s Olympic roster<\/a> and prove his detractors wrong that he could replicate his success from last season.  Team Canada has also repeatedly passed Thompson over, both for <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/spencer-carbery-on-capitals-exclusion-from-4-nations-face-off-rosters-to-not-have-one-guy-there-is-a-little-odd-to-me\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last season\u2019s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament<\/a> and for <a href=\"https:\/\/russianmachineneverbreaks.com\/2025\/08\/01\/tom-wilson-team-canada-2026-olympics-roster-orientation-camp-logan-thompson-snubbed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its National Teams Olympic Orientation Camp<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always feel like I\u2019m a player that I don\u2019t think a lot of people respect around the league,\u201d Thompson said earlier in the year. \u201cSo for me it\u2019s huge.
