Texas<\/a>\u2018 Darrell K. Royal Stadium\u2018s scoreboard team poured a little salt in the wound after Friday night\u2019s 27-17 rivalry win over No. 3 Texas A&M<\/a> with a postgame video that used Aggies head coach Mike Elko<\/a>\u2018s words against him. <\/p>\n

Following the upset win in the second revival of the Lone Star Showdown, the 15th-ranked Longhorns\u2019 home video board played a clip of Elko declaring Texas A&M the \u201cflagship\u201d program in the state of Texas not long after he was hired in early 2024. The clip was immediately followed by a viral \u201csike\u201d meme video and clips of several Longhorns players \u2014 including superstar quarterback Arch Manning<\/a> \u2014 celebrating. <\/p>\n

After the game, Longhorns head coach\u00a0Steve Sarkisian<\/a>\u00a0explained why he believes Texas deserves a spot in the\u00a0College Football Playoff<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat team is undefeated, No. 3 three in the country. A lot of the pundits out there think they\u2019re the No. 1 team in the country. We just beat them by 10,\u201d\u00a0Sarkisian said<\/a>. \u201cIf you really look at the body of work, and you look at the Southeastern Conference of what we have to go through every week, you look at the non-conference schedule we played, to go to\u00a0Ohio State<\/a>\u00a0in Week 1 and lose by seven when we outgained them by nearly 200 yards\u2014we got a really good football team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be a disservice to our sport if this team is not a playoff team when we went and scheduled that non-conference game. Because if we\u2019re a 10-2 team, it\u2019s not a question. But, we were willing to go play that game. So, is that what college football is about? Don\u2019t play anybody and just have a good record, or play the best and put the best teams in the playoff. And, we\u2019re one of the best teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the win over Texas A&M, the Longhorns racked up 397 yards of offense, compared to the Aggies\u2019 337. Texas\u2019 defense squeezed two turnovers out of Texas A&M, while the Aggies defense had no answers for Texas running back\u00a0Tre Wisner<\/a>, who exploded for 155 rushing yards on just 19 carries.<\/p>\n

With the win, Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) now has three victories against teams that were ranked in the Top 10 at the time of their meeting (Oklahoma<\/a>,\u00a0Vanderbilt<\/a>\u00a0and Texas A&M). Meanwhile, the Aggies (11-1, 7-1 SEC) must wait out Saturday\u2019s Iron Bowl and hope for an Auburn<\/a> upset over No. 10 Alabama<\/a> inside Jordan-Hare Stadium to see if the Aggies will back into a spot in next week\u2019s SEC Championship game.<\/p>\n
