Last week Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter said an announcement on Lane Kiffin\u2019s future as head coach of the Rebels was expected on Saturday, the day after the Egg Bowl.<\/p>\n
The use of the word \u201cexpected\u201d gave Ole Miss officials a little wiggle room as an \u201cexpected\u201d announcement on Kiffin\u2019s future has not come yet.<\/p>\n
Here\u2019s\u00a0what we know.<\/p>\n
Kiffin met with Carter and Ole Miss Chancellor\u00a0Glenn Boyce for more than three hours on\u00a0Saturday\u00a0according to Yahoo Sports\u2019 college football reporter Ross\u00a0Dellenger.<\/p>\n
Vehicles believed to belong to\u00a0Carter\u00a0and Kiffin\u00a0left the chancellor\u2019s home early Saturday night.<\/p>\n
ESPN\u2019s Marty Smith says the sentiment in Oxford is that Kiffin\u2019s unwillingness to commit is his desire to go. If he wanted to stay, he would have already\u00a0signed their contract extension.<\/p>\n
But Kiffin is not ready to leave just yet. Smith and\u00a0Dellenger\u00a0both report Kiffin\u00a0want\u00a0to coach Ole Miss in the postseason.<\/p>\n
Former LSU Tiger and ESPN college football analyst Booger McFarland said it well on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cKiffin wants his cake and\u00a0eat\u00a0it too,\u201d McFarland said.<\/p>\n
LSU has\u00a0reportedly offered\u00a0a seven-year contract worth more than 90-million\u00a0dollars\u00a0and LSU officials\u00a0remain\u00a0confident Kiffin will be the\u00a0next Tigers\u00a0head coach.<\/p>\n
Former Alabama and LSU coach Nick Saban weighed in on the Kiffin saga\u00a0during\u00a0ESPN\u2019s College GameDay.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Lane\u2019s decision\u00a0is going to come down to one thing: where is the place\u00a0that\u00a0I can recruit the best players? And I think one of Lane\u2019s apprehensions is that\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0had to use the portal to build his team at Ole Miss each year,\u201d Saban said. \u201cAt LSU, he probably could recruit better talent and then just supplement his team by need with the portal.\u201d<\/p>\n
It really feels like Kiffin will be the next head coach, but who will blink first?<\/p>\n
Will Ole Miss let him coach the team in the\u00a0postseason\u00a0or will Kiffin become frustrated and just resign so he can take the LSU job?<\/p>\n
We have been talking about Kiffin to LSU for weeks, and it looks like\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0have to wait a little longer.<\/p>\n
