{"id":3239,"date":"2025-07-12T03:38:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T03:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/3239\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T03:38:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T03:38:03","slug":"intel-expands-layoffs-cutting-more-than-10-of-oregon-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/3239\/","title":{"rendered":"Intel expands layoffs, cutting more than 10% of Oregon workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">Intel, one of Oregon\u2019s largest for-profit employers, is laying off nearly 2,400 workers in the state starting Monday, the company said in a layoff notice filed with the state on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">The cuts at four Washington County campuses affect people in dozens of roles, with high-tech manufacturing technicians, data scientists, software engineers and product developers all losing their jobs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">More than 300 module development engineers \u2014 the people charged with developing next-generation microchips that once made Intel a cutting edge chip company \u2014 are being laid off, as are more than 300 people involved in maintaining the company\u2019s chip manufacturing equipment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">The company had disclosed a much smaller layoff, of about 500 people, in a filing with the state on Tuesday, only to revise the number on Friday to 2,392. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GVSKYG6E75BWJO4JNPT727PTBI.JPG\" alt=\"Intel&#x2019;s Jones Farm Campus in Hillsboro, Ore., July 8, 2025.\" class=\"width_full\" style=\"aspect-ratio:3812 \/ 2541;width:100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Intel\u2019s Jones Farm Campus in Hillsboro, Ore., July 8, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__image-by color_dgray f_s_xxs m-none\">Morgan Barnaby \/ OPB<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">At the time of the Tuesday disclosure, a spokesperson told OPB that the cuts were part of Intel\u2019s efforts to become a more efficient company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">\u201cWe are making these decisions based on careful consideration of what\u2019s needed to position our business for the future,\u201d the spokesperson said in an emailed statement, \u201cand we will treat people with care and respect as we complete this important work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-body__text article-body--padding color_dgray m-none\">Although Intel is headquartered in California, its sprawling Hillsboro campus is its research and development hub.
