Charlie Puth<\/a> has vowed to deliver \u201cone of my best vocal performances\u201d at the Super Bowl next year after being hit with criticism. <\/p>\n

Puth, known globally for hits like \u201cSee You Again\u201d and \u201cAttention,\u201d will perform the national anthem<\/a> at the big game, set to take place Feb. 8, 2026, in Santa Clara, California. He\u2019ll join a pre-game lineup that also includes Brandi Carlile<\/a> and Coco Jones. <\/p>\n

As has become commonplace<\/a> for all Super Bowl performances, however, news of Puth\u2019s appearance drew some less-than-positive commentary<\/a> online. Among those to express their dissatisfaction with the choice was Link Lauren<\/a>, a conservative social media personality who served as an aide for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his 2024 presidential campaign. <\/p>\n

\u201cMan we\u2019ve fallen from when Whitney Houston sang at the Super Bowl,\u201d Lauren wrote Monday on X<\/a>. \u201cCharlie Puth? He\u2019s not gonna give us vocals I\u2019m afraid.\u201d<\/p>\n

About an hour and a half later, Puth chimed in with a rebuttal. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. \u201cBut I assure you we\u2019re putting a really special arrangement together- in D major. It\u2019ll be one of my best vocal performances.\u201d<\/p>\n

Puth\u2019s comment was a wink at his \u201cProfessor Puth\u201d TikTok video<\/a> series, in which he breaks down music theory, production techniques and the creative process behind some of his songs. In a clip shared to his social media platforms<\/a> Monday, he teased his performance of \u201cThe Star-Spangled Banner\u201d with an intentionally cheeky analysis of the vocal pitch required. <\/p>\n

The NFL, meanwhile, has no doubts about Puth\u2019s talents. In a press release<\/a> announcing his performance, officials called him \u201cone of music\u2019s most consistent hitmakers and sought-after collaborators across multiple genres.\u201d<\/p>\n

2026 is shaping up to be a prolific year for Puth, who is currently expecting his first child<\/a> with wife Brooke Sansone. The singer-songwriter, who in 2024 was famously name-dropped<\/a> by Taylor Swift <\/a>on \u201cThe Tortured Poets\u2019 Department<\/a>,\u201d will unveil his fourth studio album, \u201cWhatever\u2019s Clever!<\/a>,\u201d in March. <\/p>\n
