Conservatives angered by the NFL\u2019s choice of Bad Bunny<\/a> as next year\u2019s Super Bowl halftime headliner aren\u2019t likely to warm to one of the night\u2019s other performers, who happens to be an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n

On Monday, it was announced that Brandi Carlile<\/a> would be among those to take the stage ahead of the big game, slated for Feb. 8, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. The 11-time Grammy winner will perform \u201cAmerica the Beautiful\u201d as part of a pre-game lineup<\/a> that includes musicians Coco Jones and Charlie Puth<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Jon Barker, the NFL\u2019s senior vice president of global event production, said in a press release<\/a> that this year\u2019s roster spotlights performers \u201cwho embody the very best of music and culture,\u201d adding: \u201cThese artists bring a distinct voice to the moment, helping set the tone for a day that will captivate fans around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carlile maintains a lower public profile than Bad Bunny, whose latest album, \u201cDeb\u00ed Tirar M\u00e1s Fotos<\/a>,\u201d became his fourth to claim the No. 1 spot<\/a> on the Billboard 200 chart. Still, the folk-rock singer-songwriter, who is a lesbian<\/a>, has expressed a similar distaste for the Trump administration. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am really upset with Trump voters right now,\u201d she told NPR affiliate KUOW-FM<\/a> in 2016, shortly after Trump swept to victory over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. \u201cI\u2019m a little concerned as to why they are [Trump supporters], but I am listening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her latest album, \u201cReturning to Myself<\/a>,\u201d features the track \u201cChurch & State<\/a>,\u201d featuring lyrics that could be interpreted as a critique of the Trump administration. One of her recent collaborators is none other than Joni Mitchell<\/a>, who famously declared<\/a> \u201cFuck Donald Trump \u2015 I love that song,\u201d referring to YG\u2019s rap protest song \u201cFDT<\/a>\u201d featuring Nipsey Hussle, during a 2024 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. <\/p>\n

As was the case with Bad Bunny, news of Carlile\u2019s Super Bowl appearance drew criticism online, though it\u2019s unclear whether those who commented were alluding to her politics. <\/p>\n

\u201cBrandi Carlile? Is this the Super Bowl or a small-town coffee shop open mic night?\u201d one person wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cStick to the Grammys, the Super Bowl needs real cultural weight, not niche singer-songwriters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those who decide not to view next year\u2019s Super Bowl performances have an alternative. In October, Turning Point USA, the right-wing political group founded by slain activist Charlie Kirk<\/a>, announced plans to stage the \u201cAll American Halftime Show<\/a>,\u201d which will compete with NBC\u2019s big-game broadcast.<\/p>\n
