The Washington Capitals justified depriving us of sleep by defeating the Los Angeles Kings in a low-scoring, well-contested road game.<\/p>\n

Tom Wilson kept his scoring pace torrid by grabbing a loose puck from just outside the paint. The Kings tied it in the second, with Anze Kopitar feeding Adrian Kempe a perfect pass after Sandin-Roy and the top line misplayed the puck on attack. Kopitar to Kuempe.Early in the third, Ovechkin burst of the penalty box to help Anthony Beauvillier restore Washington\u2019s lead. Aliaksei Protas locked in the win with an empty-netter.<\/p>\n

To justify staying up mega-late on a schoolnight, we all needed a highlight-packed funfest. Instead we got a low-scoring, tightly-tuned possession battle. It would have been appreciated more had we all just finished dinner, but I am so sleepy you guys.

Ex-Cap DK is having a good season in LA, by the way. I keep hearing that Jordan Binnington is automatic to make Team Canada no matter how badly he keeps playing, but Kuemper deserves a look too.
\nAnother ex-Capital, but one I had to search my adled memory to recall, Joel Edmundson, fought Brandon Duhaime late in the second period.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying nothing, but it felt like Craig Laughlin went out of his way to mention combined points<\/a> on the Wilson goal.

Ryan Leonard\u2018s power-play role and ice time hae been ramping up over the last two weeks. His speed was crucial in the Wilson goal.
\nI really like Devante Smith-Pelly on the studio coverage. Seems like he always has something unexpected to add, even if his style isn\u2019t the standard for a TV personality.
\nI think that\u2019s the last we\u2019ll see of Anze Kopitar against the Caps. I talked about it last time<\/a>. Brilliant player \u2013 as we saw on his assist to Kempe \u2013 and I\u2019ll miss seeing him with the same frequency adult men see their friends \u2013 twice a year, tops.<\/p>\n

I just realized there\u2019s an even worse stretch of late games coming up next month. Canucks, Flames, Oilers, and Kraken \u2013 all starts after 9 PM. On average, those are inferior teams to the three on this western swing though. Plus, there\u2019s a brief, eight-day break before Seattle game.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, that was a solid and stolid win over a Kings team currently on a 100-point pace. Next they\u2019ll face the Sharks, still early in a rebuild cycle but currently overperforming and holding onto a wild-card spot with white knuckles. They will be rested against a tired Caps team, so it should be a good one.<\/p>\n
