ST. LOUIS — Jordan Binnington<\/a> said he\u2019s already moved on from Monday, when the St. Louis Blues goalie was seen to have a heated exchange with coach Jim Montgomery after being pulled in the first period of a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.<\/p>\n

Binnington allowed two goals on five shots in 10:24 before being replaced by Joel Hofer<\/a>. It was the second time this season Binnington was pulled from a start (also Nov. 5 against the Washington Capitals).<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I\u2019m not even thinking about it. It is what it is,\u201d Binnington said after an optional practice at Enterprise Center on Tuesday. \u201cMy instinct in the moment is I wasn\u2019t happy and I got 50 minutes left of energy, excitement to play. So, I let it out a little bit on my way off the ice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not really worried about it anymore, to be honest. You\u2019ve got to live in the moment, and you know that about me. I say that all the time to [the media]. That\u2019s where I\u2019m at.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Blues fell behind 1-0 at 6:33 when Mason McTavish<\/a> scored on a shot off the left boards that may have caromed short side off defenseman Cam Fowler\u2019s stick. Pavel Mintyukov scored from the outside of the right face-off circle at 10:24 to put the Ducks back in front 2-1.<\/p>\n

Montgomery then opted to pull Binnington, who, following his exchange with his coach, didn\u2019t return to the bench until the start of the second period.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou prepare for a game,\u201d Binnington said. \u201cYou\u2019re going in thinking you\u2019re playing 60 minutes, you plan on playing 60 minutes. As an athlete and a competitor, that\u2019s what you want to do. I felt good.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate. They got two goals, [but] that\u2019s hockey. The game always finds a way to keep you humble. It\u2019s all part of it. It\u2019s just about whether we won or lost yesterday. I\u2019m coming in, I\u2019m doing the same thing today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Montgomery addressed the incident after the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I love Jordan Binnington,\u201d Montgomery said. \u201cHe’s a competitor, he raises his games in the big moments all the time. I love him. He walked off the ice, he said, ‘I love you.’ I said, ‘I love you, too.’ We’re both competitors by nature, and at the end of the period, he waited for me, we apologized, we moved on. It’s over and done with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Binnington, who is 6-6-5 with a 3.20 goals-against average and .870 save percentage this season for St. Louis (9-11-7), agreed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re good. It\u2019s between us,\u201d Binnington said. \u201cWe\u2019re both competitors. It\u2019s just what happens. Instincts come out. I think we\u2019re all at our best when we\u2019re trusting our instincts. He\u2019s a great coach. It is what it is and we\u2019re just moving forward. It\u2019s totally fine and we\u2019re both men and can handle it. It\u2019s just my instinct to \u2026 I wasn\u2019t happy and that\u2019s who I am as a person. In the big picture, I think people would respect that, and I respect the fire and people who want to play. At the same time, he\u2019s the coach and he makes the decisions, and I totally respect that, too.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s just a fire that comes out sometimes. It happens to all of us in here. It was good to clear it up and just move forward. Big picture here, we\u2019re focusing on winning hockey games and making a playoff push. This is just a small fraction of time that we can both move on from, and me personally, just get back to work and keep building my game.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
