One of the more intriguing free agents on the starting pitcher market is right-hander Michael King.<\/p>\n

King is two full seasons into his conversion from a reliever to a starter, and it has gone quite well so far. King has posted a sub-3.50 ERA each of the last two seasons and because of that, he is drawing major interest around the league.<\/p>\n

Another team was added to the list of those interested Wednesday, as Detroit Tigers beat writer Evan Petzold<\/a> reported that Detroit is interested in King, as well as reliever Pete Fairbanks.<\/p>\n

King is coming off an injury riddled season that forced him to mess nearly half of his expected starts, so his health will be the No. 1 priority before a team signs him. For the Tigers, the addition of King to their starting rotation would be welcome and very much needed.<\/p>\n

Outside of back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal, the Detroit starting rotation struggled last season. Despite having the Cy Young winner, the staff ranked 10th in Wins Above Average<\/a> last season.<\/p>\n

Being able to secure King from free agency and add him to a staff with the dominant Skubal and the up-and-coming Casey Mize would likely cement Detroit as the team to beat atop the American League Central headed into the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
