Author Jillian Lauren<\/a> has filed for divorce from her husband of 20 years, Weezer<\/a> bassist Scott Shriner. This news comes months after a confrontation with the Los Angeles police that left her hospitalized with a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Lauren, who is best known for her books \u201cSome Girls: My Life in a Harem\u201d and \u201cPretty\u201d, filed the petition Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences, according to the Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 52-year-old writer is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple\u2019s two teenage sons and requesting spousal support. She is also asking the court to terminate its ability to award support to Shriner.<\/p>\n

Lauren, who married Shriner in November 2005, also wants his last name removed from her legal name and is requesting that he pay her attorney fees.<\/p>\n

The divorce filing comes several months after Lauren\u2019s arrest in April on suspicion of attempted murder. The Los Angeles Police Department said Lauren fired a gun at officers in the backyard of her Eagle Rock home while they were searching the area for a suspect in an unrelated hit-and-run incident. Officers reported seeing Lauren with a handgun that she pointed at them before shots were exchanged. Lauren sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors charged Lauren with assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. She entered a not guilty plea in May. In September, a judge granted her mental health diversion, which allows her to avoid jail time. Under the two-year agreement, Lauren must abstain from drugs and alcohol, attend therapy sessions, and refrain from owning firearms to have the charges dismissed.<\/p>\n

Prior to the incident, Lauren had been recovering from cancer treatment and a hysterectomy. She shared with her Instagram followers that she had \u201ca little bit of the C word\u201d and expressed gratitude to her oncologists.<\/p>\n
