Woods told the media<\/a> the Future Competition Committee was tasked to \u201ccreate the best schedule and product, [and] to deliver all that in \u201927 is something we\u2019re trying to do.\u201d<\/p>\nThe player who attended the meeting, which included nearly everyone in the 20-man field, said the conversation centered on a reduced schedule of approximately 20 to 25 events played in the best markets, on the best courses, with the best fields at the best time of year. He also said the idea is to create a clearly defined promotion and relegation system similar to what soccer has in the United Kingdom, and not a vague \u201cPGA Tour A\u201d and \u201cPGA Tour B\u201d framework like the circuit currently has.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what a perfect schedule looks like for me. I like being able to have a little bit of freedom in the way I play tournaments. That\u2019s something that I think is an advantage to our Tour, I definitely enjoy that part of it,\u201d said Scottie Scheffler, who attended Tuesday\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut at the end of the day I\u2019m going to play where the best players are playing. I love competition, I love playing against the best players, so wherever those guys are playing that\u2019s probably where you\u2019re going to see me.\u201d<\/p>\n
The three \u201cgoverning principles\u201d of the Future Competition Committee are parity, scarcity and simplicity, with scarcity \u2014 which is being seen as a reduction of the Tour schedule \u2014 being the biggest outlier.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe scarcity thing is something that I know scares a lot of people, but I think that if you have scarcity at a certain level, it will be better because it will drive more eyes because there will be less time,\u201d Woods said Tuesday. \u201cBut don\u2019t forget the golfing year is long. So there\u2019s other opportunities and other places around the world or other places to play that can be created and have events.
