The back end of the Reds bullpen is going to look similar to the one that made the playoffs last season.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati re-signed its closer Emilio Pag\u00e1n to a two-year, $20 million contract, according to The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman. The deal does include an opt-out after 2026.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pag\u00e1n, 34, enjoyed an impressive season for a Reds team that went 83-79 and beat out the Mets for the final National League wild-card spot in game 162.<\/p>\n

It was their first postseason appearance since 2020. They were swept in two games by the eventual World Series champion Dodgers.<\/p>\n

He recorded a career-high 32 saves with a 2.88 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 68 \u2154 innings, just short of his previous high.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An injury to Alexis Diaz opened the door for his return to a primary closer\u2019s role for the first time since 2019, when he saved 22 games for the Rays with a 2.31 ERA.<\/p>\n

Pag\u00e1n has been a bit of a journeyman in his career, having played for the Athletics, Padres, Mariners and Twins over nine MLB seasons.<\/p>\n

This, however, will mark his third straight season with the Reds \u2014 and potentially more to come.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He struggled in 2024 with a 4.50 ERA before his major bounce-back, thanks to a 32.6 percent overall chase rate and the improvement of his splitter, which had a career-best\u00a036.2 inches of vertical drop.<\/p>\n
