Two processes are being studied for their role in aging: one is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/news\/does-cellular-senescence-hold-secrets-healthier-aging#:~:text=What%20is%20cellular%20senescence?,%2C%20childbirth%2C%20and%20wound%20healing.\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"cell senescence\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"6925d04ce4b0774c10d47820\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.nia.nih.gov\/news\/does-cellular-senescence-hold-secrets-healthier-aging#:~:text=What%20is%20cellular%20senescence?,%2C%20childbirth%2C%20and%20wound%20healing.\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cell senescence<\/a> and the other is damage to the telomeres on your DNA. <\/p>\n<p>In cell senescence, a cell stops dividing normally and just hangs around, creating inflammatory chemicals that can harm surrounding cells. <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC3370421\/#:~:text=Summary,of%20diseases%20and%20poor%20survival.\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"Telomeres\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"6925d04ce4b0774c10d47820\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC3370421\/#:~:text=Summary,of%20diseases%20and%20poor%20survival.\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Telomeres<\/a>, which are like little caps on the end of your DNA, fray and shorten as you age, which is associated with declining health. Both processes are affected by lifestyle, and can be decreased with good food choices.<\/p>\n<p>We spoke with four nutrition experts to recommend the top snacks for slowing down the aging process. Here\u2019s what they suggest snacking on.<\/p>\n<p>Raw Veggies<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/raeannesarazen.com\/about-raeanne\/\" target=\"_blank\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"Raeanne Sarazen\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"6925d04ce4b0774c10d47820\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/raeannesarazen.com\/about-raeanne\/\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Raeanne Sarazen<\/a> is a registered dietitian, chef, culinary nutrition consultant, and author of \u201cThe Complete Recipe Writing Guide.\u201d She stressed \u201cthe importance of other lifestyle factors besides diet that contribute to healthy aging \u2014 that includes exercise, adequate sleep, minimizing alcohol consumption and stress management.\u201d But in terms of foods to snack on, Sarazen recommends snacking on raw veggies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep in mind, there\u2019s no magical anti-aging snack, but reaching for whole foods like colorful veggies, which are rich in fiber and antioxidants, can help,\u201d she said. involved with improving mitochondrial function, and animal studies have found that spermidine may play a role in longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dried And Smoked Fish<\/p>\n<p>In Japanese, Korean and Southeast Asian cultures, snacking on dried anchovies is a popular and tasty way to add calcium and protein to a diet, and if you are unfamiliar with that, you can always try fish jerky or even open a can of sardines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/public-health-nutrition\/article\/association-\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"This study\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"6925d04ce4b0774c10d47820\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\"
