Malcolm-Jamal Warner tragically passed away on July 20, 2025 at the age of 54 while swimming in Costa Rica. \u00a0Multiple reports<\/a> say that Warner was swept<\/a>\u00a0away by a powerful current while swimming at Playa Grande beach in Cahuita, Lim\u00f3n. <\/p>\n

However, another report confirmed that he was not alone<\/a> at the time of his death. <\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Red Cross there told Us Weekly that \u201cemergency personnel attended to two adult male patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA 35-year-old man\u00a0who hasn\u2019t been identified\u00a0was transported in critical condition to the local clinic\u00a0and his current condition is unknown, while CPR was performed on\u00a0a 54-year-old male\u00a0\u2014 Warner \u2014 who was declared\u00a0dead\u00a0at the scene,\u201d the outlet wrote. \u201cThe spokesperson confirmed that both Warner and the second individual were \u2018involved in the same incident.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The Man Who Tried To Save Malcolm-Jamal Warner Has Made a Full Recovery<\/p>\n

Warner played the loveable Theo Huxtable for all eight seasons of the show, helmed by disgraced comic actor Bill Cosby. <\/p>\n

The man who was with Warner at the time was trying to rescue him, a Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) spokesperson told PEOPLE<\/a>. He was identified as a 29-year-old man from Nicaragua, according to Dr. Mauricio Solano Corella, Medical Director for the Talamanca Health Area.<\/p>\n

He was in the water at the time of the incident, and was taken to the hospital after first responders arrived at the scene. He received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross and made a full recovery, PEOPLE reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was \u201ctreated, found to be stable and was discharged without complications,\u201d Dr. Corella told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Malcolm-Jamal Warner\u2019s Daughter Was Rescued <\/p>\n

ABC News <\/a>reports that Warner\u2019s daughter<\/a> was with him at the time of his tragic passing and was rescued on the beach by bystanders.<\/p>\n

Others on the beach reportedly saw Warner and his daughter \u201cstruggling and dove in to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The outlet added that \u201ca surfer used his board to bring Warner\u2019s daughter to safety, and a volunteer lifeguard pulled Warner and another surfer to shore, where Warner was given 45 minutes of CPR, according to police.\u201d<\/p>\n
