EUGENE \u2014 Oregon is promoting from within to fill its opening coordinator positions.<\/p>\n

Tight ends coach Drew Mehringer<\/a> and secondary coach Chris Hampton<\/a> are being promoted to offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively, according to CBSSports.com. A source with knowledge of the matter confirmed Hampton\u2019s promotion to The Oregonian\/OregonLive.<\/p>\n

Will Stein<\/a>, who was hired as head coach at Kentucky<\/a>, and Tosh Lupoi<\/a>, who was hired as head coach at Cal<\/a>, are staying on to call plays<\/a> throughout Oregon\u2019s time in the College Football Playoff.<\/p>\n

Mehringer and Hampton each have play-calling experience and are involved in Oregon\u2019s weekly game-planning.<\/p>\n

Mehringer, 38, was promoted to co-offensive coordinator<\/a> before this season, his fourth at UO. He came to Oregon after serving as quarterbacks coach at New Mexico in 2021 and was previously co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach at FAU (2020), receivers coach at Texas (2017-19), offensive coordinator at Rutgers (2016), receivers coach at Houston (2015) and co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at James Madison (2014).<\/p>\n

Hampton served at co-defensive coordinator this season, his third in Eugene, prior to which he was defensive coordinator at Tulane for two years. He was also cornerbacks coach at Duke (2020) and had a prior stint coaching defensive backs at Tulane (2016-19) and McNeese State (2012-15).<\/p>\n

The only non-coordinator on UO\u2019s staff earning over $1 million this season, Hampton is currently signed through January 2027 for $1.2 million annually.<\/p>\n
