WILLIAMS, AZ (AZFamily) \u2014 You don\u2019t have to go all the way to the North Pole to find reindeer; just take a quick drive up to the High Country.<\/p>\n
The Grand Canyon Deer Farm, located outside of Williams, has been around since 1969 and have had reindeer for over 30 years.<\/p>\n
Owner Amy Kravitz has worked at the farm for 20 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo one of the important things to remember about reindeer is that they are domesticated,\u201d Kravitz said. They\u2019re not wild. They are very special animals.\u201d She bonds with all of their animals, but the reindeer are special.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the most wonderful thing in the world,\u201d Kravitz said. \u201cWhen they have their calves they let me milk them. They let me help them with their babies.\u201d Plus, she said, girl power pulls Santa\u2019s sleigh.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe males generally lose their antlers before Christmas so that\u2019s why it\u2019s the females,\u201d Kravitz said.<\/p>\n
The farm is open year-round because it doesn\u2019t just have reindeer. They also have over 100 deer that people can hand-feed. Plus tons of other animals, including a bison, a camel and more.<\/p>\n
Kravitz said all of their animals are either rescues or born and raised at the farm. They get hundreds of visitors a day. Her goal is to educate people so they leave with more respect for the animal.<\/p>\n
\u201cDeer are the most underrated North American animal. Knowing something and appreciating it is a form of conservation,\u201d Kravitz said.<\/p>\n
During December, they also have visits from Santa and other events.<\/p>\n
