The Boston Red Sox have made their offseason wishlist pretty public.<\/p>\n
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told the world about his intentions<\/a> to add another top-of-the-rotation pitcher and a middle-of-the-order bat \u2014 but there\u2019s one sneaky need that also needs to be addressed.<\/p>\n It\u2019s rather barron in the middle of that bullpen\u2026<\/p>\n Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo have already been acquired<\/a> to potentially fight for those spots at the top of the rotation. Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber are popular candidates to be added<\/a> to the heart of the batting order. Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock need someone to help them get through the late innings, however, and the options have dwindles in recent weeks.<\/p>\n Devin Williams signed with the New York Mets. Ryan Helsley signed with the Baltimore Orioles. Raisel Iglesias and Emilio Pag\u00e1n were retained by the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, respectively.<\/p>\n Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n The Boston Globe\u2019s Peter Abraham knows they\u2019re all off the board, so he floated one under-the-radar option<\/a> in his column on Saturday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Drew Pomeranz could be a \u201creliable left-hander who could handle high-leverage situations\u201d for Boston, according to Abraham.<\/p>\n Pomeranz, 37, previously spent three seasons in Boston, where he finished with a 4.24 ERA while transitioning from a full-time starter to a bullpen piece \u2014 finishing things off by becoming the only player who didn\u2019t appear for the club during the 2018 World Series.
