\n\tMia Goth<\/a> is providing an update on the status of Marvel<\/a>\u2018s long-delayed and beleaguered take on Blade<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Josh Horowitz for his Happy Sad Confused podcast<\/a>, the Frankenstein star said she is completely in the dark on what\u2019s happening with the project, saying she began preliminary production processes after being cast, but that the film \u201cunraveled from there.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on with that,\u201d she said. \u201cI think that they want to make it, and it\u2019s such an important film for them that they\u2019re taking their time with it. I really don\u2019t have any information. I don\u2019t know why it\u2019s taken the time that it has, but we will see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe continued, \u201cThe furthest that it got with me \u2026 they flew [me] to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between [star] Mahershala [Ali] and I, and we did a costume fitting and a wig fitting, and I was very excited in the direction it was going. It was very cool. And Mahershala had such an interesting take on it, and he was great. And then it just unraveled from there, unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGoth became attached to the project in 2023<\/a>, and it had been reported that the new iteration would be a period piece, as the lost project\u2019s costume pieces designed by Ruth Carter were recycled for Sinners<\/a>, Ryan Coogler\u2019s vampire horror phenomenon set in the 1930s. The Odyssey actress was rumored to make her MCU debut as Lilith in\u00a0Blade,\u00a0known in the comics as a key supernatural villain. <\/p>\n

\n\tThis summer, boss Kevin Feige<\/a> noted the project remains in development<\/a> with Ali still attached to star as the Daywalker, first originated on screen in the \u201990s-to-early-aughts trilogy starring Wesley Snipes (who made a cameo in last year\u2019s\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine). There were four versions of the film in development, including two period pieces, though Feige said the creative team has \u201clanded on modern day and that\u2019s what we\u2019re focusing on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLate last year, Marvel unsurprisingly\u00a0pulled\u00a0Blade\u00a0from its 2025 release calendar<\/a>. Originally announced back in 2019, the movie was naturally delayed by the pandemic and dual industry strikes. Since then, it\u2019s also seen a number of exits, including from initially tapped directors Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) and Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country). On pausing\u00a0Blade\u00a0after the exit of the two filmmakers, Feige said, \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to put a leather outfit on [Ali] and have him start killing vampires.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cYou can start and have a good script and make it a great script through production, but we didn\u2019t feel confident we could do that on\u00a0Blade. We didn\u2019t want to do that to Mahershala and didn\u2019t want to do that to us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRecently, Sinners actor Delroy Lindo, who was attached to the new Blade back in 2021, also commented that the iteration \u201cjust went off the rails.\u201d<\/a> Meanwhile, Ali has dodged questions about the project<\/a>. Last year,\u00a0Goth told Deadline<\/a> that, with regard to the\u00a0Blade\u00a0delays, those behind the movie \u201creally care, they do. They want to make a great movie. That\u2019s the sense that I get from them and that feels good.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso in 2024, it was reported Eric Pearson (Agent Carter,\u00a0Thor: Ragnarok,\u00a0Black Widow) would be penning the script.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mia Goth is providing an update on the status of Marvel\u2018s long-delayed and beleaguered take on Blade.
