As the Eagles try to pull themselves out of a rut, the energy during this week of practice has been very high. Now, they desperately need to bring it to the sideline at SoFi Stadium.<\/p>\n
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley on Saturday said that energy during games this season hasn\u2019t been very good.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, I think it\u2019s been awful,\u201d Barkley said. \u201cI think if you ask anybody and they\u2019re being honest, we\u2019d all agree on that. But most importantly, I think the energy throughout the week in practice and in walkthroughs, meetings has been great.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow, we gotta carry that to game day. All the stuff has been great. Now, we gotta make sure that on game day, the energy is high, we execute and we make plays. The rest should take care of itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not hard to figure out why the Eagles might be lacking energy during games. They have been struggling mightily on offense.<\/p>\n
On the season, the Eagles are 19th in points and 24th in yards and have averaged just 15.5 points in their four games since the bye week.<\/p>\n
But Barkley thinks that energy is important and said that is has been addressed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t been playing well,\u201d Barkley said. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to come out on the sideline and have great energy when you rip off a 60-yard touchdown. It\u2019s the truth. We know that. Execution fuels emotion. I can\u2019t believe I never heard of that before I came here but I remember Stout (offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland) saying that and I was like, \u2018Wow, that makes so much sense.\u2019 I think that\u2019s in everything, not just in football, but in life. I\u2019m excited for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stoutland has been using that expression \u2014 \u201cexecution fuels emotion\u201d \u2014 for many years. And it makes sense. Of course players are going to be more energetic when things are going well.<\/p>\n
Last season, Barkley had a 2,000-yard season and even when the passing game was struggling, the Eagles were able to rely on their rushing attack. It simply hasn\u2019t been anywhere near as effective this season but there\u2019s still some optimism they can get things back on track.<\/p>\n
A big message from the Eagles this week has been that the sky isn\u2019t falling. They are 8-4 and in command of their division. But they have also lost two straight games and there are legitimate concerns about where this team is heading.<\/p>\n
The best way to get more energy on the sideline? Start making plays.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited for the opportunity,\u201d Barkley said. \u201cI feel like we\u2019re trending in the right direction from this week of practice. But the crazy thing about the NFL, the vibes, the energy can be amazing, practice can be great, game plan can be great. You gotta go out there on Monday and do it. That\u2019s where we\u2019re at. We have one more day to walkthrough some stuff, get some situational stuff done and then the long flight.
