They&#8217;re sometimes called cottonmouths because of the white lining they display inside of their mouth when threatened\u00a0&#8211; a tactic used to fend off predators and reduce direct conflict.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Water Mocassin is one of four types of venomous snakes found in the Guadalupe River, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DJWoIMhyl48\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:according to Guadalupe River State Park;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">according to Guadalupe River State Park<\/a>. The vast majority of snakes you might find in the Guadalupe River are harmless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But, unless you&#8217;re a snake savant, it can be hard to distinguish between venomous snakes like cottonmouths and the numerous harmless ones.
