{"id":336420,"date":"2025-12-08T06:11:21","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T06:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/336420\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T06:11:21","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T06:11:21","slug":"social-security-benefits-are-going-out-on-wednesday-dec-10-heres-whos-getting-a-payment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/336420\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Security benefits are going out on Wednesday, Dec. 10: here\u2019s who\u2019s getting a payment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Next week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/news\/seguridad-social\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/news\/seguridad-social\/\">Social Security<\/a> Administration (SSA) is to issue benefits to millions of recipients across the United States, in what is the third payment run on the agency\u2019s December 2025 distribution schedule. <\/p>\n<p>Who\u2019s getting a Social Security payment on Dec. 10?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Wednesday, Dec. 10, payments are to be made to certain recipients of retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or survivor checks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Of the more than 70.2 million Americans who receive retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, most receive their money on the second, third or fourth Wednesday in each month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A beneficiary\u2019s designated Wednesday is determined by the date of birth of the worker whose Social Security taxes have accumulated the benefits entitlement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Wednesday\u2019s payments cover birthdays between the 1st and 10th of each month. The following two Wednesdays &#8211; Dec. 17 and 24 &#8211; will then account for birthdays between the 11th and 31st of each month. <\/p>\n<p>At a glance &#8211; Dec. schedule for 2nd, 3rd &amp; 4th Wednesday payments:Born on 1st-10th of each month: Weds., Dec. 10Born on 11th-20th of each month: Weds., Dec. 17Born on 21st-31st of each month: Weds., Dec. 24<\/p>\n<p>Who isn\u2019t paid on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Weds. in Dec.? Some long-term Social Security recipients<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If you began receiving retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, your check typically goes out on the third day of each month, regardless of your date of birth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">These long-term beneficiaries were therefore scheduled to be paid for December on Wednesday, Dec. 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The just under 7.4 million beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) &#8211; a separate SSA scheme for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability &#8211; are normally paid on the first day of each month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Consequently, December\u2019s SSI payments were scheduled to be sent out <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-to-send-out-payments-today-monday-dec-1-heres-whos-getting-a-check-f202512-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-to-send-out-payments-today-monday-dec-1-heres-whos-getting-a-check-f202512-n\/\">on Monday, Dec. 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Just over 2.5 million people in the U.S. claim both SSI and one of the SSA\u2019s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">These recipients were due to get the former on Dec. 1, followed by the latter on Dec. 3.<\/p>\n<p>At a glance &#8211; Dec. payment dates not determined by birthday:SSI recipients: Mon., Dec. 1Pre-May \u201997 Social Sec. beneficiaries: Weds., Dec. 3Dual recipients: SSI on Dec. 1; Social Sec. on Dec. 3<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">You can check out the SSA\u2019s full benefits-distribution schedule for 2025 in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\">online calendar<\/a>. The agency has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\">published its payment schedule for 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How much do recipients of Social Security retirement get?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Retired workers &#8211; who account for most of the U.S.\u2019s Social Security recipients &#8211; get $2,012.30 a month on average, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/quickfacts\/stat_snapshot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/quickfacts\/stat_snapshot\/\">the SSA\u2019s most recent figures<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Published this week, the agency\u2019s latest Social Security fact sheet provides data for October, rather than the past month. This is apparently because of the disruption caused by October and November\u2019s 43-day <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/is-the-us-government-shutdown-over-what-to-know-about-the-house-vote-and-what-came-next-f202511-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/is-the-us-government-shutdown-over-what-to-know-about-the-house-vote-and-what-came-next-f202511-n\/\">government shutdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How much is paid to recipients of disability, survivor and SSI benefits?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">According to the SSA, disabled workers get an average of $1,588.44 a month, and recipients of survivor benefits are paid $1,575.89 a month on average. Beneficiaries of the SSI scheme receive a monthly average of $717.51.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>COLA increase to benefits<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This fall, the SSA <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/social-security-announces-benefit-increase-for-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/social-security-announces-benefit-increase-for-2026\/\">confirmed<\/a> that its benefits recipients will get a 2.8% increase in their 2026 payments. This comes as part of the agency\u2019s annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). For recipients of retirement benefits, this will lead to an average rise of $56 per month, the SSA says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-reveals-who-will-be-the-first-beneficiaries-to-receive-the-new-increased-payments-f202511-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-reveals-who-will-be-the-first-beneficiaries-to-receive-the-new-increased-payments-f202511-n\/\">first recipients<\/a> of the adjusted monthly payments will be beneficiaries of the SSI program: their January money is to go out on December 31 &#8211; a day earlier than normal, because New Year\u2019s Day is a federal holiday.<\/p>\n<p>How does Social Security make benefits payments?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The SSA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\">says<\/a> it is \u201cin most cases\u201d no longer issuing paper checks. Instead, the agency provides beneficiaries with two ways of receiving their payments electronically:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">By supplying the SSA with their bank details, beneficiaries can receive their money by direct deposit.
