\u201cIt had been a long time coming \u2014 just physical stuff that was going on with my hands,\u201c Mustaine told<\/a> Eddie Trunk. \u201dMy hands were letting me down. And there were other things that were difficult because of all the stuff going on in my neck and my trunk. All that area there has arthritis and it has discs that are bulging. I\u2019ve got a broken lumbar bone. Of course, you know I have my back fused, up by my shoulders, by my neck. And just a lot of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n Mustaine said he told his manager that his hands were \u201creally hurting,\u201d which turned into a conversation about having \u201cone last really good tour.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI always said when it got to the point where I was unable to give a hundred percent every night, that\u2019s when I was gonna start considering winding down,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe thing is we\u2019re an American band, but we play everywhere. So it\u2019s not like we just are weekend warriors, like country acts here in the States. We\u2019ve got a lot of touring to do in order to do our farewell properly.\u201d<\/p>\n Megadeth currently has more than 50 tour dates scheduled in 2026, including summer concerts in Toronto, Ontario; Harrison, N.J.; and Hershey, Pa. Tickets are currently available via Ticketmaster<\/a>, Vivid Seats<\/a> and StubHub<\/a>.<\/p>\n Mustaine, 64, told Kerrang!<\/a> magazine last week that if the last album does well, Megadeth could \u201ceasily\u201d continue the farewell tour for up to five years. But once they\u2019re done, they\u2019re done.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he\u2019s in his 80s,\u201d he told Kerrang! \u201cI have to remember that people live and they die… And I need to take good care of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n Mustaine also told Trunk that he understands why some veteran artists keep playing longer than they should \u2014 money, mostly \u2014 but described himself and the band as financially secure. However, he may continue doing music without Megadeth.<\/p>\n \u201cNow, when I think about, what am I gonna do after I hang the guitar up, that\u2019s in relation to touring, and I believe that I\u2019m going to keep doing music in some way, shape or form. But not in the fashion that I was doing with Megs because if I can\u2019t do it and I need to stop playing with my first love, I\u2019m not gonna go out and try and do it again with someone else,\u201d Mustaine said.<\/p>\n According to Ultimate Classic Rock<\/a>, the first single from the upcoming album will be released this fall. Mustaine is also set to release a memoir next year.<\/p>\n Mustaine, who also a memoir coming out next year, formed Megadeth in 1983 after being fired from Metallica<\/a> before the latter recorded its debut album. Both bands, along with Slayer and Anthrax<\/a>, are considered the four biggest acts in the metal subgenre known as thrash metal.<\/p>\n Megadeth is a Grammy-winning band known for songs like \u201cSymphony of Destruction,\u201d \u201cTornado of Souls,\u201d \u201cPeace Sells,\u201d \u201cA Tout Le Monde\u201d and \u201dHoly Wars… The Punishment Due.\u201d This year marks the 40th anniversary of their debut album, \u201cKilling Is My Business… and Business Is Good!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A legendary metal band is confirming plans to retire after a farewell tour.
