Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau<\/a> and pop star Katy Perry<\/a> have appeared to confirm their relationship in the only way that matters \u2013 by going Instagram official.<\/p>\n

Perry posted<\/a> a carousel of photos on Saturday, featuring herself and Trudeau posing cheek-to-cheek and eating sushi while visiting Japan for her world tour, seemingly confirming the months-long rumors that they are in a relationship.<\/p>\n

That came three days after former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida appeared to \u201chard launch\u201d the couple\u2019s relationship, posting a photo<\/a> on X of them alongside himself and his wife, referring to Perry as Trudeau\u2019s \u201cpartner\u201d in his caption.<\/p>\n

The worlds of pop and politics colliding in this way, and the sight of Perry, known for hits like \u201cFirework\u201d and \u201cRoar,\u201d suddenly interacting with former world leaders, has made the singer and the ex-prime minister one of the year\u2019s most unexpected celebrity couples.<\/p>\n

Trudeau reposted the photo, adding that \u201cKaty and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko,\u201d while thanking Kishida for his \u201cfriendship\u201d and \u201ccontinued commitment to the international rules-based order.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry and Trudeau\u2019s relationship has been the source of fevered speculation<\/a> for months. First, they were spotted dining together at a restaurant in July, then embracing on a yacht, then leaving a Parisian club hand-in-hand.<\/p>\n

And ever since that first rumor, the couple have captured the internet\u2019s imagination. Back in August, satirical news outlet the Onion imagined<\/a> actor Orlando Bloom, Perry\u2019s ex-fianc\u00e9, dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Bloom showed his appreciation for the joke story in the comments section of the Onion\u2019s Instagram post, responding with three clapping hands emojis.<\/p>\n

Celebrity couples that straddle the political and pop worlds are relatively unusual, though Trudeau\u2019s own father, Pierre \u2013 another former Canadian Prime Minister \u2013 briefly dated Barbra Streisand in the late 1960s.<\/p>\n

Trudeau separated from his ex-wife, Sophie Gr\u00e9goire, with whom he has three children, in August 2023, while Perry confirmed her split from Bloom, the father of her 5-year-old daughter, in July.<\/p>\n
