{"id":337417,"date":"2025-12-08T18:30:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T18:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/337417\/"},"modified":"2025-12-08T18:30:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-08T18:30:11","slug":"obsesseds-nick-schager-wins-film-critic-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/337417\/","title":{"rendered":"Obsessed\u2019s Nick Schager Wins Film Critic of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Daily Beast\u2019s Obsessed\u2019s chief critic, Nick Schager, has <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/lapressclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/NAEJ-2025-Winners-11222025-1628.pdf&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/lapressclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/NAEJ-2025-Winners-11222025-1628.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/lapressclub.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/NAEJ-2025-Winners-11222025-1628.pdf\">been named<\/a> film critic of the year in the <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/lapressclub.org\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/lapressclub.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LA Press Club <\/a>National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was singled out for his reviews of Oscars Best Picture contender <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/train-dreams-is-the-best-film-of-this-years-sundance-film-festival\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/train-dreams-is-the-best-film-of-this-years-sundance-film-festival\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Train Dreams<\/a>, the headline-making Blake Lively romance drama <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/it-ends-with-us-review-blake-livelys-cheesy-domestic-abuse-film\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/it-ends-with-us-review-blake-livelys-cheesy-domestic-abuse-film\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It Ends With Us<\/a>, and last year\u2019s award-season favorite <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/the-brutalist-this-215-minute-epic-is-destined-for-oscar-best-picture\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/obsessed\/the-brutalist-this-215-minute-epic-is-destined-for-oscar-best-picture\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Brutalist<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In their citation for Schager\u2019s honor, the Press Club wrote, \u201cWith his review of The Brutalist, Schager deftly touches upon the enormity of Brady Corbet\u2019s massive tale of art, vision, nationalism, betrayal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Schager was the first writer hired when The Daily Beast\u2019s Obsessed launched in 2022, and had been one of the Beast\u2019s most in-demand freelance reviewers before that. This week, you\u2019ll be able to read his takes on the Prime Video series Fallout, adapted from the popular video game; the new James L. Brooks film Ella McCay; and the sensational Chinese film Resurrection, which he calls a \u201ctour de force you have to see on the big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Additionally, Tim Teeman won the prize for Online Journalist of the Year, tied to his work covering culture and theater for The Daily Beast.
