\n\tJimmy Kimmel<\/a> will remain at ABC<\/a> for a while longer.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe late night host has signed a one-year extension with the network that will take Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>! through the end of the 2026-27 TV season. Kimmel\u2019s current deal was set to end in May 2026. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe extension, first reported by Bloomberg<\/a>, comes on the heels of a tumultous few months for Kimmel that saw him briefly suspended<\/a> in September for comments about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a record audience<\/a> for his return and ongoing sparring with President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel thought that when he was initially suspended by ABC, that his tenure on the network was coming to an end. \u201cI thought that it\u2019s over. I was like, I\u2019m never coming back on the air,\u201d he told Stephen Colbert<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tOf course, the preemption ended up begin short-lived, despite some complaints from major ABC affiliates Sinclair and Nexstar.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel\u2019s future at ABC had been in doubt, given the May expiration of his contract. He told Bloomberg in October that he had not yet decided on what he would do, but that he keeps answering the question.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI often answer that question, and then I do the opposite of what I said,\u201d Kimmel quipped. \u201cI previously said, \u2018this is going to be like my last one,\u2019 the last three contracts. So I\u2019ve learned not to say anything anymore, because it upsets my staff. It\u2019s best that when I make a decision, I will make that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNow he has made a decision, albeit a short-term one. Of course that doesn\u2019t preclude him from signing another deal a year from now.<\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel\u2019s head writer (and wife) Molly McNearney addressed his suspension at The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s Women In Entertainment brunch last week.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFear is contagious. But the good news is, so is bravery,\u201d McNearney. \u201cI\u2019ve watched Jimmy and my friends and my co-workers hold our leaders accountable without fear night after night. I\u2019ve watched other late night shows and journalists and lawyers and activists and politicians and civilians in the street stick their neck out there for all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo one \u2014 not the FCC, not ABC standards and practices, not even President Trump himself \u2014 has taken more action to infringe upon and forcibly limit my speech than Molly McNearney,\u201d Kimmel quipped in introducing her.<\/p>\n
