BRISTOL, Va. (WCYB) \u2014 Our sister station Fox 39 is about to reach more viewers.<\/p>\n
We are doing this by changing the channel where you can find it.<\/p>\n
Here is what you need to know.<\/p>\n
“Our Fox 39 broadcast signal will be shifting from Channel 39.1 to Channel 5.3,” WCYB Chief Engineer Doug Chaulk said.<\/p>\n
Channel 5.3 is a WCYB subchannel. WCYB will remain on 5.1.<\/p>\n
News 5’s Rebecca Pepin asked WCYB Chief Engineer Doug Chaulk what this means for you.<\/p>\n
“The Dish and DIRECTV people and cable subscribers won’t see a change,” Chaulk said. “It’s just the over the air viewers, and in order to see the change, they’ll probably have to re scan their TVs.”<\/p>\n
Since every TV is different, we recommend that you do a quick online search on how to re-scan the channels for your make and model.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, we’re excited to be expanding our Fox viewership.<\/p>\n
“Well, it’s really happening because the the antenna that Channel 5 broadcasts on can reach a much larger over the air population,” Chaulk said. “So once we do this on our Channel 5 transmitter, you’ll also be able to see the NBC, CW, and now, you’ll be able to see the Fox channel on there as well.<\/p>\n
To help get you used to the change we’ll simulcast Fox on 39.1 and 5.3 through mid January when Fox will fully make the transition to Channel 5.3.<\/p>\n
