{"id":339141,"date":"2025-12-09T14:50:15","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T14:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/339141\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T14:50:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T14:50:15","slug":"significant-underfunding-for-countys-mental-health-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/339141\/","title":{"rendered":"Significant underfunding for county\u2019s mental health services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Norfolk Clubhouse said that spending in Norfolk and Waveney on the sector was 30pc below the national average.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It found that of 40 NHS Integrated Care Boards in England, Norfolk ranked 26th in 2023\/24, the most recent year for which figures are available, with its NHS-funded services receiving \u00a3199.4 million.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This is around 30pc lower than the national average of \u00a3284.6 million.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>June Webb, founder of Norfolk Clubhouse (Image: Norfolk Clubhouse)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  June Webb, Norfolk Clubhouse founder and psychotherapist, said: \u201cA funding gap of this size is having a direct and damaging impact on Norfolk people.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cPeople are experiencing preventable harm simply because of delayed care. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cUnderfunding means fewer staff, longer waiting times and less availability of key mental health support when and where it is most needed.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis also has the knock-on effect of putting even more pressure on A&amp;E services.\u201d\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Those waiting for professional help can access free services such as Talking Therapies, for which 2,835 referrals were made in Norfolk and Waveney in July this year alone.\u00a0It is also possible to self-refer to Talking Therapies.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/25652706.executive-managing-directors-announced-hospitals-group\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New bosses heading up day-to-day running of hospitals to bring &#8216;wealth of experience&#8217;<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edp24.co.uk\/news\/25653508.norfolk-mum-joins-olympian-support-young-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"text-slate no-underline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mother&#8217;s fight to help young people after son tried to take his own life aged 8<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Webb added: \u201cIn Norfolk, we are facing a mental health challenge that many rural areas struggle with &#8211;
