{"id":340003,"date":"2025-12-10T00:39:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T00:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/340003\/"},"modified":"2025-12-10T00:39:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T00:39:07","slug":"small-business-optimism-rises-in-november-despite-labor-quality-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/340003\/","title":{"rendered":"Small business optimism rises in November despite labor quality concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bank of America business banking President and Co-head Sharon Miller discusses small and mid-sized business costs and the optimism these companies have going into 2026 on \u2018The Claman Countdown\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/small-business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Small business optimism<\/a> ticked higher in November despite economic uncertainty and challenges finding suitable workers in the labor market, according to a new report by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).<\/p>\n<p>The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index increased 0.8 points in November to 99, remaining above its 52-year average of 98. Six of the 10 components of the index increased, while three declined and one was unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>An increase among small businesses expecting real sales to be higher was the primary contributor to the increase in the Optimism Index. The net percentage of owners expecting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/fox-news-finance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">higher real sales<\/a> volumes rose 9 points from October to a net 15%.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although optimism increased, small business owners are still frustrated by the lack of qualified workers,&#8221; said NFIB chief economist Bull Dunkelberg. &#8220;Despite this, more firms still plan to create new jobs in the near future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/small-businesses-lead-november-job-losses-tariff-uncertainty-weighs-hiring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">SMALL BUSINESSES LEAD NOVEMBER JOB LOSSES AS TARIFF UNCERTAINTY WEIGHS ON HIRING<\/a><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/small-business-workers-store-getty.jpg\" alt=\"Workers gather at a small business.\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>The NFIB&#8217;s report showed small business optimism ticking higher in November despite labor market and inflation challenges. (Getty Images \/ Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Small business owners were focused on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">labor quality<\/a> as the single most important problem, as 21% of small business owners cited labor quality as their top concern in November, down 6 points from October.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Owners have been frustrated by the lack of qualified workers available to fill their open positions. (iStock)<\/p>\n<p>Labor quality concerns surpassed inflation, the second most important concern reported by small business owners at 15%, an increase of 3 points from October.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly two-thirds of small business owners, 64%, reported that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">supply chain disruptions<\/a> were affecting their business to some degree. That was an increase of 4 points from October, while the share reporting a significant impact from supply chain disruption rose 3 points to 7%.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/fed-expected-deliver-third-straight-rate-cut-week-amid-labor-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">FED EXPECTED TO DELIVER THIRD STRAIGHT RATE CUT THIS WEEK AMID LABOR CONCERNS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/small-business.jpg\" alt=\"row of shops\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Small businesses&#8217; expectations about improving business conditions have declined since January. (Jeffrey Greenberg\/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The NFIB found that the net percent of owners raising their average selling prices increased 13 points from October to a net 34%, the highest reading since March 2023 and the largest monthly jump in the history of the survey.<\/p>\n<p>The report suggested there will be continued\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">inflationary pressures<\/a>.
