Does Sabrina Carpenter<\/a> believe in suffering for her art, or does she just have really bad luck?\n<\/p>\n

That’s the big question after the singer’s Monday night visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers<\/a> where she admitted to enduring “a lot of pain” while making and touring for her latest record, Man’s Best Friend. And she’s not talking about the emotional kind.\n<\/p>\n

“I, uh, I fell on a cactus,” Carpenter recalled of filming her ambitious “Manchild” music video. The revelation prompted a sympathetic “aw” from the live audience, to which she replied, “Thank you. It’s so easy to laugh when people get hurt, and I did. But then I started crying.”\n<\/p>\n

Luckily, there was a medic on set to help the popstar out \u2014 but the cactus certainly made a lasting imprint; in fact, the rest of that day involved frequent reminders of just how intimately acquainted she got with the offending plant.\n<\/p>\n

“For the rest of the day I was picking s— out of…” Carpenter said, trailing off with a knowing look.\n<\/p>\n

Host Seth Meyers could only nod: “When you back into a cactus, it’s with you for the rest of the day.”\n<\/p>\n

The “Manchild” music video was shot on a movie ranch in Santa Clarita, Calif., where it embraced desert vibes and showcased Carpenter hitchhiking across the American West with various men (all manchildren in their own right). She uses a wide range of transportation methods for her travel \u2014 and it’s not hard to see the potential for other injuries.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

At one point, Carpenter is seen rollerblading down a highway while holding onto a truck. At another, she runs from a firing gun and jumps into a shark-infested pool. She also rides a jet ski, a motorized reclining chair, and even sits in a shopping cart attached to a motorcycle.\n<\/p>\n

Carpenter said the shoot ultimately spanned three days (one more than planned), but turned into the music video of her dreams \u2014 give or take a few cactus spines.\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

“We endured a lot of pain to get the finished product, so please watch it,” she pleaded to the crowd. “Please watch it.”\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

Later in her conversation with Meyers, Carpenter pointed out a pain point that was a staple of her Short N’ Sweet tour, which she kicked off in November 2024 and wrapped up late last month. Her stage set involved a dazzling staircase \u2014 but that beautiful piece of set design tripped her up on a nightly basis.\n<\/p>\n

When celebrating the end of the tour, Carpenter posted a photo of herself standing on the staircase and saying goodbye “to the stairs that humbled my ass one too many times.”\n<\/p>\n

Looking back on those stumbles, Carpenter admitted to “thoroughly” regretting the stairs, especially since she was performing in heels.\n<\/p>\n

“And it really started to get worse at the end,” she added.\n<\/p>\n

“Oh?” Meyers asked with a laugh. “You didn’t get better at stairs?”\n<\/p>\n

“No, ironically, I think I got so excited the tour was ending, and I was just on a high,” she shared. “I was like, ‘I only got 10 shows left,\u00a0 let’s really give it a 12 tonight’ and then I would just eat s— every single chance I got.”\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
