Indiana Fever<\/a> star Caitlin Clark<\/a> remains the most popular player in the WNBA<\/a> today. She’s undoubtedly the biggest name in the league, with her presence resulting in sold-out games and massive TV viewership.<\/p>\n

Clark has also lived up to the hype. In two seasons in the WNBA, she has averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She has also been named to the All-Star team twice, even being voted as a captain last campaign.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, despite her immense popularity, Clark wasn’t the most-searched WNBA player in 2025. Instead, that honor goes to a Fever teammate of hers: Sophie Cunningham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Google Trends data<\/a>, Cunningham is the seventh most-searched athlete in the U.S. in 2025, behind Shedeur Sanders<\/a>, Terence Crawford, Cooper Flagg<\/a>, Cam Skattebo<\/a>, Micah Parsons<\/a> and Jaxson Dart<\/a>. The Fever guard is the only WNBA player in the top 10.<\/p>\n

It’s worth noting that Clark ranked No. 7<\/a> on the list in 2024 and was the only WNBA player as well.<\/p>\n

The WNBA has several other popular players, such as Chicago Sky<\/a> star Angel Reese<\/a> and 2025 No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers<\/a>. The Fever are full of widely known stars as well, including Aliyah Boston<\/a>, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull, among others.<\/p>\n

That being said, Cunningham’s rise to popularity came as somewhat of a surprise.<\/p>\n

Perhaps Clark’s absence for a majority of the 2025 season affected her search volume. She played just 13 games in the past campaign due to a groin injury.<\/p>\n

Still, it should be noted that Cunningham’s sudden explosion in fame has something to do with Clark. To recall, she gained over 300,000 followers on Instagram and jumped from 300,000 to 1.2 million followers on TikTok after she avenged the Fever star during a game, according to Chloe Peterson of the Indianapolis Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cunningham was ejected during a game against the Connecticut Sun last June after she pulled down Jacy Sheldon by her head. It came after Sheldon poked Clark in the eye and Sun guard Marina Mabrey shoved the All-Star.<\/p>\n

Clearly, Cunningham has done well in taking advantage of her surge in popularity to the point that she has outshone Clark in the process.<\/p>\n
