Ed Orgeron<\/a> has made it clear he\u2019d welcome a return to LSU<\/a> as an assistant working under new Tigers head coach<\/a> and longtime friend Lane Kiffin<\/a>. Unfortunately, that call hasn\u2019t come yet.<\/p>\n

Orgeron, the barrel-chested national championship-winning former LSU head coach, revealed he\u2019s yet to hear from Kiffin about potentially returning to the Baton Rouge sidelines during a recent appearance on the Bussin\u2019 With The Boys podcast<\/a> with co-hosts Will Compton<\/a> and Taylor Lewan<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe had asked me, he called last year, he was going to get (another) job, and he wanted to know if I wanted to (join him on staff). I said: \u2018You know what, I\u2019m not ready yet,’\u201d Orgeron told Compton and Lewan<\/a>. \u201cHe had called (recently), he said: \u2018What do you think about LSU?\u2019 And I gave him nothing but rave reviews. But it never came through, like he never called and said, \u2018Do you want to come?\u2019 I never called him and said, \u2018I want to go.\u2019 He knew I was planning to get back into coaching. Would LSU be a good fit with him (as the head coach)? Do I think so? Yes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as a head coach, when you\u2019re going into a situation like that, you\u2019ve got to feel out the lay of the land and do what\u2019s best for you. So, he\u2019s got his defensive staff. He hasn\u2019t called me, which is good. I wish him the best of luck.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following last month\u2019s chaotic exit from Ole Miss<\/a>, one of Kiffin\u2019s first moves was to retain LSU defensive coordinator<\/a> Blake Baker<\/a>, who turned down a potential head coaching opportunity at Tulane<\/a> to stay in Baton Rouge and become college football\u2019s highest-paid coordinator with an average annual salary of $3 million<\/a>. <\/p>\n

That reality aside, Orgeron was clearly on Kiffin\u2019s mind when he first landed in Baton Rouge on Nov. 30, even channeling the beloved Louisiana native\u2019s thick Cajun accent during his introductory press conference a day later while recalling a conversation he had with Orgeron on the drive into town.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were going by Tiger Stadium. \u2026 I called Ed Orgeron, I said, \u2018Hey, man, this place just makes me want to talk like you right now,\u2019 (and) I did,\u201d Kiffin said during his introductory presser<\/a>. \u201cWe were in the car, and the kids were in there, and \u2026 the coaches (where like,) \u2018What are you doing?\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m like, channeling Ed right now.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018I\u2019m feeling him,’\u201d Kiffin continued. \u201cLike, I rolled down the window, and I was like, \u2018Go Tigahs!\u2019 to the fans. So I called Ed, I said, \u2018I don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on, man, but I\u2019m feeling you right now.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n
