Liverpool youngster Kaide Gordon is set to spend a spell on the sidelines. The 21-year-old has taken to social media to confirm he has torn his meniscus and will be out ‘for some time’.

It is rotten luck for the youngster, who missed the whole of the 2022-23 season due to a long-term injury.

Gordon became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer in the FA Cup when he marked his first his appearance at Anfield by netting in the third-round win over Shrewsbury Town in January 2022.

READ MORE: Curtis Jones makes Liverpool dressing room feelings on Arne Slot clear before more Mohamed Salah talksREAD MORE: Jarell Quansah speaks out on Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot after Liverpool row – ‘From what I’ve seen’

The England youth international returned to fitness in the early months of the 2023-24 campaign and made three more first-team appearances for the Reds before spending last season on loan in the Championship with Norwich City and then Portsmouth.

He has remained with Liverpool during the current campaign and came off the bench in the 3-0 Carabao Cup home loss to Crystal Palace in October.

Gordon could well have expected to have taken his place in Arne Slot’s first-team squad for the Champions League clash against Inter at the San Siro on Tuesday given the absences of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chiesa

He was part of training ahead of the Reds’ previous Champions League encounter, at home to PSV Eindhoven.

But the attacker, who has been in impressive form for the Under-21s this season, has now confirmed why that was not going to be the case.

He said: “So disappointed to say I have torn my meniscus and will be out for some time worst news I could have got and this one will hurt for a while but I will be back.”

For the latest Liverpool FC news and breaking news, visit liverpoolecho.co.uk/all-about/liverpool-fc.
