Student drivers as well as car riders were dismissed 30 minutes early to elevate traffic flow in the parking lot and make exiting easier for buses.

“We have been informed of a gas line issue near Metea. Due to crews working near our school, and the closure of the intersection at Diehl Road and Eola, as well as Mustang Way, to fix the issue, we are dismissing students with cars 30 minutes early to alleviate some of the traffic congestion,” an email released to students, parents, and staff said.

Social studies teacher Michael O’Niell talks about the notice teachers got concerning the gas leak and the intentions behind informing staff as soon as possible.

“[DeBruycker] emailed us earlier in the day, letting us know that there were some issues just north of the school, but he was very good at communicating to us that nobody was in danger or anything like that.”

Principal Dan DeBruycker said that a construction crew accidentally broke the gas line north of the school, off the actual school grounds. Students and staff in the school are safe, but for the easiest dismissal, the building administration decided to release car riders early.

“The building administration worked with district transportation and administration to create a dismissal plan,” DeBruycker said.

Worry about unsafe amounts of traffic in the parking lot led to the early dismissal, with bus riders being released at the same time as usual. DeBruycker continued to say that this hopefully should not impact traffic to school tomorrow morning, with the construction crew saying it should be able to be fixed in just a couple of hours. O’Niell talks about how teachers too may be impacted by this road closure.

“A lot of us probably have to take 88 to get home, myself included, so I probably can find an alternative route to get home today,” O’Niell said.

O’Niell also says that all communication concerning this issue will be given online through emails, following the same pattern as the last part of today. As of right now, there is no set time for when the leak will be fixed.

The Eola and Diehl intersection was closed off Wednesday afternoon due to a gas leak, leading to the…

[2
4,450,451,3,452,453
0":"post-341767","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-breaking-news","8":"tag-breaking-news","9":"tag-breakingnews","10":"tag-headlines","11":"tag-news","12":"tag-top-stories","13":"tag-topstories
["GET
