{"id":343072,"date":"2025-12-11T22:06:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T22:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/343072\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T22:06:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T22:06:11","slug":"charlotte-brewery-owner-accused-of-breaking-into-home-raping-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/343072\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte brewery owner accused of breaking into home, raping child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The co-owner of Sycamore Brewing was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly breaking into a home and raping a girl under the age of 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Channel 9 found jail records showing that Justin Tawse Brigham was booked into custody on felony charges of statutory rape of a child, first-degree burglary, and indecent liberties with a child.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Before his arrest, Brigham, 44, was also listed as the co-owner of Sycamore Brewing, according to North Carolina business records. Sycamore Brewing is the largest brewery in Charlotte and one of the city\u2019s most popular spots.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1607a6334d000e77560fe1c25ef10f5e.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to court documents, Brigham allegedly broke into a home in Stanfield and raped a 13-year-old girl on Wednesday. The Stanly County Sheriff\u2019s Office said the incident happened overnight. It\u2019s not clear how Brigham first contacted the victim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brigham is being held in the Stanly County Jail on a $10 million bond. If he\u2019s released, he\u2019s not allowed to be on social media, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Just after 1 p.m., Chopper 9 SkyZoom spotted investigators going into Brigham\u2019s home in south Charlotte. It\u2019s not clear what they may be looking for, but the Stanly County Sheriff\u2019s Office confirmed a search was underway.<\/p>\n<p>Sycamore Brewing\u2019s response<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DSIgbWNEZBA\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Sycamore Brewing posted a statement on Instagram;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Sycamore Brewing posted a statement on Instagram<\/a> just after 1 p.m. Thursday saying that Justin \u201cis divesting all of his interest and will have no further involvement\u201d with the company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Sycamore Brewing is also owned by Justin\u2019s wife, Sarah Taylor. She said in the Instagram statement that she\u2019s taking full leadership of the company effective immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Taylor wrote that she is \u201cdevastated by the charges against Justin and the pain this has inflicted on our family and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brigham was still listed as the managing member of Sycamore Brewing LLC, according to the North Carolina Secretary of State\u2019s business records as of late Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Shock to the city<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Our story on Brigham\u2019s arrest got a lot of attention due to Sycamore\u2019s popularity, and Channel 9\u2019s Joe Bruno spoke with a child advocate who hopes this case will be an eye-opener for parents to talk to their children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe need to be talking about child safety. We need to be talking directly to our children to give them the tools also to keep themselves safe,\u201d said Mary Kathryn Elkins with Pat\u2019s Place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Elkins hopes the investigation is extensive, and she said resources are available for child sex abuse survivors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe hope that the children who live through this will seek mental health treatment and support that can really be instrumental in their hope and healing for the future,\u201d Elkins told Channel 9.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The sheriff\u2019s office told Channel 9 that they expect to release more information in the case on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This is a developing story, and we\u2019re working on getting additional details.
