The ABC sitcom \u201cShifting Gears\u201d has finally cast Tim Allen\u2019s son.<\/p>\n

There have been mentions of Matt Parker\u2019s (Allen) Navy hero son Sam on \u201cShifting Gears,\u201d but viewers have never seen him in person. That will change later this season when Luke Macfarlane joins the cast as Sam.<\/p>\n

Macfarlane is known for playing Scotty Wandell on the ABC television drama \u201cBrothers & Sisters\u201d from 2006-2011. His other past roles include the 2022 movie \u201cBros,\u201d the Canadian TV series \u201cKilljoys\u201d and Hallmark Channel films<\/a> including \u201cCatch Me If You Claus\u201d and \u201cNotes of Autumn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season 2 of \u201cShifting Gears\u201d premiered in October. The series follows Matt Parker, an auto restoration shop owner who reluctantly takes in his estranged, newly-divorced daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) and his two grandchildren (Maxwell Simkons and Barrett Margolis). Seann William Scott and Daryl \u201cChill\u201d Mitchell also star as Gabriel and Stitch, mechanics in Matt\u2019s shop. <\/p>\n

\u201cShifting Gears\u201d showrunner Michelle Nader teased Macfarlane\u2019s addition to the cast back in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope to introduce Sam in Season 2. We think he will be another fun casting opportunity and a great character for everyone to complain to,\u201d Nader told TVLine<\/a> at the time. <\/p>\n

Allen has been an iconic TV dad for decades, starring as the patriarch on the sitcoms \u201cHome Improvement\u201d (1991-1999) and \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d (2011-2021) before \u201cShifting Gears\u201d debuted in January.<\/p>\n

During a January interview with People<\/a>, Dennings pointed out that most of Allen\u2019s crew has followed him from project to project, which she called \u201ca real testament to him as a person.\u201d <\/p>\n

Dennings went on to express appreciation for her \u201cvery funny banter\u201d with Allen as well as the actor\u2019s warm disposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a big part of my consciousness growing up, so it was very surreal to work with him, but in a great way because he\u2019s a very kind person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShifting Gears\u201d airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
