Quentin Tarantino may see Paul Dano as \u201cweak sauce,\u201d<\/a> but plenty of Hollywood heavyweights, including Daniel Day-Lewis, couldn\u2019t disagree more.<\/p>\n

Last week, during an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, the Oscar-winning auteur, 62, issued a scathing assessment <\/a>of Dano\u2019s performance in Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a>\u2019s 2007 Western thriller There Will Be Blood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Labeling the 41-year-old actor the movie\u2019s \u201cbig, giant flaw,\u201d Tarantino said: \u201cHe is just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest f***ing actor in SAG.\u201d<\/p>\n

Immediately after the Django Unchained<\/a> filmmaker\u2019s unsparing remarks<\/a>, numerous high-profile stars came out in support of Dano, heaping praise on him and arguing that he is \u201cincredible,\u201d \u201cbrilliant,\u201d and \u201cone of the best actors of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

An Instagram account purporting to be Day-Lewis posted on Tuesday that \u201cPaul Dano<\/a> is one of the best and most talented actors of his generation.\u201d Representatives for the record-holding three-time Oscar winner informed The Guardian<\/a> that the account was fan-run, but maintained that the British actor endorsed the sentiments. <\/p>\n

Day-Lewis recommended Dano for the role of Eli Sunday in ‘There Will Be Blood’ (Miramax)<\/p>\n

Day-Lewis, who led There Will Be Blood, recommended Dano for the part of Eli Sunday after the original actor suddenly dropped out. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ben Stiller<\/a>, who directed Dano in the 2018 series Escape at Dannemora, wrote on X: \u201cPaul Dano is f***ing brilliant.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marvel\u2019s Simu Liu agreed, commenting in a separate X post: \u201cidk man i think paul dano is an incredible actor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese Witherspoon<\/a>, Dano\u2019s former Inherent Vice co-star, added on Threads: \u201cPaul Dano is an incredibly gifted, versatile actor. More importantly, he is a gentleman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also taking to X, Matt Reeves<\/a>, the director of the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman, in which Dano appeared as the psychotic supervillain The Riddler, labeled him \u201can incredible actor, and an incredible person.\u201d <\/p>\n

Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer on Reeves\u2019s forthcoming The Batman sequel, which is expected to see Dano reprise his role, added: \u201cI am really pleased to see so many people cheer on Paul Dano this week. Not only is he a terrific actor, but he\u2019s an astonishing director who exudes control and tremendous empathy.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Threads, Frozen actor Josh Gad<\/a> went so far as to call Dano \u201cone of the best actors of our time. Full stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to say I love Paul Dano,\u201d Alec Baldwin <\/a>stated in a recent Instagram video. \u201cAnd if you don\u2019t love Paul Dano, shh.\u201d<\/p>\n

Actor Colleen Foy, who portrayed Dano\u2019s sister in There Will Be Blood, wrote on Threads that her co-star\u2019s \u201cincredible performance speaks for itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI sat behind Quentin Tarantino at the Cast & Crew screening and he was legit vibing with Paul\u2019s performance,\u201d Foy claimed in the post. \u201cHis recent comments are incongruent with his reaction that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dano is an acclaimed actor, best known for performances in films such as Little Miss Sunshine (2006), Meek\u2019s Cutoff (2010) and The Fabelmans (2022).
