It\u2019s not yet clear what caused either of the breakages.<\/p>\n<p>The Pole Line breakage occurred around 4:45 a.m. According to the city\u2019s news release, water entered \u201ca power grid area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\">RELATED | Hawthorne Middle School closed after water main break in Pocatello<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\">RELATED | Emergency closure at Indian Hills Elementary; parents asked to pick up kids at LDS Church<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents in the area must remain inside their homes as a safety precaution. Avoid the area until further notice,\u201d according to a text notification from Bannock County.<\/p>\n<p>At 6:32 a.m., the county sent out another notification, saying that the water had been turned off, and warned residents to \u201cuse caution when exiting home. Watch for utility crews throughout the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/assets.eastidahonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Water-break.jpg\" class=\"fancybox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Water-break-750x500.jpg\" alt=\"Standing water in front of Hawthorne Park.\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-vertical-resize wp-image-797401\"  \/><\/a>Standing water in front of Hawthorne Park. | Kyle Riley, EastIdahoNews.com  Hawthorne Middle School <\/p>\n<p>A release from Pocatello\/Chubbuck School District 25, sent out at 6:46 a.m., said that \u201cout of an abundance of caution, Hawthorne Middle School will be closed today due to a water main line break in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city put out an update at 9:30 a.m., saying that the breakage was a 12-inch water main, and to avoid the area if possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraffic control is in place, and the area is restricted to one-lane traffic in each direction. Crews are on site working to clean up and make repairs,\u201d the update read.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/assets.eastidahonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Pole-Line-Eldredge-Water-main-break-5.jpg\" class=\"fancybox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Pole-Line-Eldredge-Water-main-break-5-750x500.jpg\" alt=\"Cars are restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction on Pole Line Avenue.\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-vertical-resize wp-image-797375\"  \/><\/a>Vehicles are restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction on Pole Line Avenue. | Logan Ramsey, EastIdahoNews.com  Indian Hills Elementary School <\/p>\n<p>Courtney Fisher, spokesperson for PCSD 25, told EastIdahoNews.com the district received a notification about a water line breakage near Indian Hills Elementary School around 8:30 a.m. An update to the city\u2019s news release around 10 a.m. identified the water line that broke as a \u201csmall service line.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>As one of the district\u2019s early-start schools, the day had already started.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were trying to inquire whether we could continue throughout the day before they shut the water off, if that was a possibility, and we learned that no, that needed to be shut off immediately, and so we just put our plans in motion,\u201d Fisher said.<\/p>\n<p>School faculty conducted an evacuation of all students from the school to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building across the street and began the process of reunifying them with their parents and guardians.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com\/assets.eastidahonews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Bannock-Highway-breakage.jpg\" class=\"fancybox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Bannock-Highway-breakage-750x500.jpg\" alt=\"Workers on site in front of Indian Hills Elementary School.\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-vertical-resize wp-image-797389\"  \/><\/a>Workers on site in front of Indian Hills Elementary School. | Logan Ramsey, EastIdahoNews.com  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur first priority in these situations is first and foremost to make sure that we have all staff and learners accounted for, make sure that they get over to the reunification site just as expediently as possible and as safely as possible, and then our priority is to get them reconnected to their parents,\u201d Fisher explained.<\/p>\n<p>Parents and guardians who picked up their students had to go through safety protocols, including filling out paperwork and showing personal ID cards to verify identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just appreciate our parents\u2019 response (and) their patience,\u201d Fisher said.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all of the students had been picked up from the reunification site by 11 a.m. that day, and Fisher said the process went \u201csmoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes these things aren\u2019t necessarily a scary event. It\u2019s still a critical event.
