The mom, Jada Bafus \u2014 whose sons suffer from Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)<\/a>, a severe genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle weakness and loss \u2014 first posted about the run-in on Instagram, saying that was not how she expected her family\u2019s Make-A-Wish trip to Disneyland to begin.<\/p>\n

Not only did the post go viral, but it caught the attention of Swank herself, who immediately slid into Bafus\u2019 DMs to \u201capologize\u201d and offer both \u201csympathy\u201d and \u201cpraise.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe also took the time to learn about our family,\u201d Bafus told Page Six in an interview Thursday, saying the women quickly came to realize it was a case of \u201ctwo triggered mothers\u201d having a \u201chuman misunderstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bafus acknowledged that she noticed the actress \u2014 and her 2-year-old twins<\/a> \u2014 at baggage claim at LAX but was preoccupied with trying to call her husband, Bryan Bafus, who was with their children, Mason, 7, and Jack, 4.<\/p>\n

However, to Swank, 51, it appeared that Jada was trying to sneak a photo of her toddlers, whose faces she\u2019s never shown publicly.<\/p>\n

In her since-deleted Instagram post, Jada claimed the movie star said to her, \u201cYou got what you needed? Get what you came for? Enjoy that picture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jada now realizes that Swank was just \u201ctrying to protect her kids from getting photographed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe both apologized to each other,\u201d Jada told us, lamenting that she feels \u201cbad\u201d that the ordeal \u201cgot twisted into a negative light.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only did she not expect to hear from Swank, but she also didn\u2019t expect the Oscar winner to be able to \u201crelate\u201d to her situation.<\/p>\n

She hopes something positive will come from the incident, as her only \u201cgoal\u201d is to raise awareness about DMD<\/a>, which significantly affects both quality of life and life expectancy.<\/p>\n

In fact, Jada and Bryan have taken to social media to document their sons\u2019 medical journeys. They are hopeful that the FDA will soon approve several treatments in the pipeline.<\/p>\n
