Tim Allen reunited with his former TV daughter while filming his ABC sitcom \u201cShifting Gears.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kaitlyn Dever, who played Allen\u2019s daughter on \u201cLast Man Standing\u201d from 2011 to 2021, recently stopped by the \u201cShifting Gears\u201d set for a surprise visit.<\/p>\n

In a heartwarming moment shared via the show\u2019s official Instagram page<\/a> earlier this week, Allen, 72, walked around the corner into the kitchen only to find Dever, 28, looking through the fridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh,\u201d Dever said casually, as Allen grabbed the counter in shock. The audience laughed and applauded as Allen stepped forward to embrace Dever. <\/p>\n

\u201cLast Man Standing\u201d followed Mike Baxter (Allen), a senior executive for a sporting goods store. Dever starred as Eve, one of Mike\u2019s three daughters. Since playing Allen\u2019s progeny, Dever has starred in television shows including \u201cApple Cider Vinegar\u201d (Belle Gibson) and \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d<\/a> (Abby). <\/p>\n

Back in December 2019, Allen was one of the announcers for the 77th Golden Globe Award nominations<\/a>, and he got to announce Dever\u2019s Best Actress nomination for the miniseries \u201cUnbelievable.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cJust left Golden Globes announcement presentation. Special to get to smile as I read nominee of my gifted TV daughter Kaitlyn Dever to the press … congrats to her and all the other artists,\u201d Allen wrote via X<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast Man Standing\u201d came to an end in 2021, but Allen has a new TV family on \u201cShifting Gears.\u201d He plays Matt Parker, an auto shop owner who reluctantly takes in his estranged, newly divorced daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) and his two grandchildren (Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis). Luke Macfarlane will join the cast later this season as Allen\u2019s son Sam, who has been mentioned but never seen on the show.<\/p>\n

Season 1 of \u201cShifting Gears\u201d premiered in January, quickly followed by season 2 in October. The series is the latest project in Allen\u2019s long career. Prior to \u201cLast Man Standing,\u201d he helmed another sitcom, \u201cHome Improvement,\u201d from 1991-1999.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve done a full circle. I look around and I\u2019m on the Disney lot, and I keep walking by the \u2018Home Improvement\u2019 set,\u201d Allen said while speaking to TVInsider<\/a> about \u201cShifting Gears\u201d in December 2024. \u201cI sat in front of the set and they still have a sign on it: \u2018Home Improvement\u2019. I\u2019m kind of finishing, if you will, where I started.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShifting Gears\u201d airs on ABC on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET. Episodes are available to stream on Hulu<\/a> the day after they air.<\/p>\n
