Holes is being buried at Disney+.\n<\/p>\n
The streaming platform is no longer moving forward with a TV series reimagining Louis Sachar’s 1998 YA novel and the 2003 Disney movie adaptation that starred a young Shia LaBeouf<\/a>, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed. Deadline Hollywood first reported<\/a> the news.\n<\/p>\n As EW reported in January<\/a>, Disney ordered a pilot for the project that put a gender-flipped spin on the story. The show had been set to star Shay Rudolph, who played Stacey on Netflix’s canceled-too-soon version of The Baby-Sitters Club<\/a>, as well as movie veteran Greg Kinnear and Saturday Night Live alum Aidy Bryant.<\/p>\n Shay Rudolph, Greg Kinnear, and Aidy Bryant.<\/p>\n Victoria Sirakova\/Getty; John Lamparski\/Getty; Amy Sussman\/Getty<\/p>\n The plot centered on a teenage girl (Rudolph) who had been sent to a detention camp, where she and others were forced to dig holes for unknown reasons by a cruel warden (Kinnear).\n<\/p>\n Behind the scenes, Liz Phang, known for Yellowjackets and The Haunting of Hill House, was set to served as executive producer and showrunner, while Alina Mankin (Katy Keene, Lodge 49) served as writer and executive producer. Other EPs included Sarah Esberg, Drew Goddard, Andrea Massaro, and Mike Medavoy. Walden Media, which produced the film, was also on board.\n<\/p>\n Sachar’s novel won a Newbery Medal and a National Book Award. The film version also starred Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, and Tim Blake Nelson.<\/p>\n
