Edwin Diaz explained his decision to leave the Mets for the Dodgers. <\/p>\n

The closer headed west for a three-year, $69 million contract with the two-time defending World Series Champions over the same terms and $3 million fewer with the Mets \u2014 who reportedly \u201chad some wiggle room\u201d on their initial offer.<\/p>\n

But it wasn\u2019t just about the money<\/a>, the 31-year-old said in his first Los Angeles press conference on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t easy. I spent seven years in New York \u2014 they treated me great,\u201d Diaz said. \u201cI chose the Dodgers because they\u2019re a winning organization<\/a>. I\u2019m looking to win, and I think they have everything to win, so picking the Dodgers was pretty easy.\u201d <\/p>\n

The three-time All-Star closer acknowledged that he had options in free agency, but said the Dodgers stood out due to their track record.<\/p>\n

And, unfortunately for Mets fans, he\u2019s bringing the trumpets with him across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would be fun. I think that music will get into the fans right away,\u201d he said of his high-octane \u201cNarco\u201d entrance<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s a nice walk-up song, so I can\u2019t wait to, first game of the season, come in the ninth with Timmy Trumpet and get the W for the Dodgers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not alone. <\/p>\n

Diaz joins a loaded roster with a bevy of arms that should be in the World Series mix for the duration of his contract and beyond. And the Dodgers are eager for him to bring his game to their bullpen.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI think just watching him compete over the years, seeing the selflessness in the postseason or in the last weekend of this year \u2026 whenever the game is potentially on the line,\u201d said Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman. \u201cAnd it fits in really well with our culture and the selflessness of a lot of our superstar players. So many boxes were checked in our mind, but again, just a very high bar to say, \u2018This person is our closer,\u2019 and \u2018Sugar\u2019 checks all those boxes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opportunity to add somebody of this caliber to what\u2019s already a really talented bullpen was something that we weren\u2019t sure was going to be able to actually come to fruition,\u201d general manager Brandon Gomes added. <\/p>\n
