{"id":347270,"date":"2025-12-13T23:47:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-13T23:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/347270\/"},"modified":"2025-12-13T23:47:10","modified_gmt":"2025-12-13T23:47:10","slug":"chelseas-enzo-maresca-slams-lack-of-support-amid-worst-48-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/347270\/","title":{"rendered":"Chelsea&#8217;s Enzo Maresca slams lack of support amid &#8216;worst 48 hours&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dec 13, 2025, 01:59 PM ET<\/p>\n<p>Enzo Maresca said he had suffered his &#8220;worst 48 hours&#8221; since joining <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c43a00b9-2826-72b3-77a0-62730abc936e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=363\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea<\/a> after his team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/report\/_\/gameId\/740750\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">beat <\/a><a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c531d4dd-ea53-c1fc-9c91-c7f8f31b5a40\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=368\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Everton<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/report\/_\/gameId\/740750\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> 2-0<\/a> to go fourth in the <a data-league-guid=\"6949f3af-300c-35f1-beab-b95669eedd38\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/league\/_\/name\/ENG.1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Premier League<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Victory at Stamford Bridge ended a four-game winless run but afterwards the Italian hit out at unnamed parties for failing to support him and his players, though he stressed that he was not referring to fans.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"6db4c779-7f2c-07f7-14ce-64d74f7d7fad\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/296395\/cole-palmer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Palmer<\/a> scored on his first home start since August and the mood around the ground seemed positive, but Maresca was clearly unhappy despite a first win since Nov. 22 easing the pressure on him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/story\/_\/id\/47292377\/chelsea-ratings-palmer-gusto-shine-win-everton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea ratings: Palmer, Neto, Gusto 8\/10 in Everton win<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The last 48 hours has been the worst since I joined the club because many people didn&#8217;t support me and the team,&#8221; he said. &#8220;In general.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether he was talking about the club&#8217;s supporters, he added: &#8220;I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img class=\" lazyload lazyload\" data-image-container=\".inline-photo\" height=\"320\" width=\"570\"\/>Enzo Maresca hit out at a lack of support following Chelsea&#8217;s win over Everton.\u00a0Darren Walsh\/Chelsea FC via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Maresca was responding to a question about the performance of <a data-player-guid=\"079b587a-173f-3a77-98b2-60f43628ef68\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/308947\/malo-gusto\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Malo Gusto<\/a> &#8212; who had scored Chelsea&#8217;s second goal &#8212; before making his startling claim.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday he had said that only victories would stop fans from complaining on social media and reflected on his 30 years in football, saying: &#8220;I know that if you don&#8217;t win everyone complains.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whether his comments after Everton were directed at online reaction or elsewhere was unclear, but he was quick to back his players as they brought to an end a run that included defeats away at Leeds and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f7f801ac-4d05-4840-e4a2-c573d04a1d52\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=105\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Atalanta<\/a> and a poor goalless draw at Bournemouth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The effort from the players &#8212; Reece [James] and Malo are both full-back and today they were both midfielders,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The effort and open mind and the way they want to learn has been fantastic. This is why I praise the players. With so many problems they are doing very well after a complicated week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Palmer&#8217;s goal, his first at home from open play since January, had been the story of the match. This has been the most difficult year of Palmer&#8217;s career, suffering two significant injuries and making a fraction of the impact he enjoyed during his first 18 months at Chelsea.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"acb84374-10ed-880e-ccf6-4c7a102d103a\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/270190\/wesley-fofana\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wesley Fofana<\/a> played a short ball in midfield to Gusto, whose pass through the lines was wonderfully calibrated. Palmer&#8217;s run caught Everton cold, and he breezed through the centre of their defence and smacked the ball by <a data-player-guid=\"2f35ae2e-81ad-5bae-f4f3-11a1b8e6a184\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/159443\/jordan-pickford\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Pickford<\/a> at his near post.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With Cole we are a better team,&#8221; said Maresca. &#8220;I really praise the players because we played 16 Premier League games, five without <a data-player-guid=\"f4aa8cdd-a976-53d4-a320-be7958cbcf1b\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/289877\/moises-caicedo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mois\u00e9s Caicedo<\/a>, 11 without Cole Palmer, almost all of them without <a data-player-guid=\"0406d93b-ba27-3365-9c3b-5aba080308c6\" href=\"http:\/\/espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/307114\/liam-delap\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Liam Delap<\/a>. No matter who is playing is doing fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We played almost all season without our best player. This is the reason why I&#8217;m so happy for the players.
