Daniil Medvedev<\/a> advanced to his eighth quarter-final of the season on Thursday at the Mubadala Citi DC Open<\/a>, where he moved past Chinese qualifier Wu Yibing with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 win.<\/p>\n The 29-year-old is competing at No. 14 in the PIF ATP Rankings this week, his lowest ranking since May 2019. However, Medvedev has looked impressive on the hard courts in Washington, where he overcame Reilly Opelka<\/a> in his opening match.<\/p>\n Against Wu, the eighth seed fired 11 aces and won 93 per cent (28\/30) of his first-serve points, according to Infosys ATP Stats, to improve to 2-0 against the Chinese star in the pair\u2019s Lexus ATP Head2Head series.<\/p>\n Medvedev, who is seeking his first title since Rome in 2023, is competing at the ATP 500 event for the first time since he reached the final in 2019. He will next play French lucky loser Corentin Moutet<\/a> in his eighth quarter-final of the year. Only Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> (10) has more quarter-final appearances at tour-level events in 2025.<\/p>\n Medvedev will be aiming for a deep run in Washington to boost his Nitto ATP Finals<\/a> chances. The former US Open<\/a> champion is currently 17th in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin but could climb as high as 10th with the title.<\/p>\n American Brandon Nakashima<\/a> advanced to his 20th ATP Tour quarter-final and third above 250 level by defeating British lefty Cameron Norrie<\/a> 7-6(3), 6-3. Nakashima, who is making his fourth appearance in Washington, will next meet seventh seed Alex de Minaur<\/a>, who overcame Jiri Lehecka<\/a> 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 6-4.<\/p>\n You May Also Like: De Minaur: ‘I’m at my peak, ready to break through barriers’<\/a><\/p>\n De Minaur, who reached the 2018 final in Washington, fired a double fault on his second match point in the second-set tie-break and failed to serve out the match at 5-2 in the decider. Yet he responded with a service hold to love in the ultimate game to seal a two-hour, 45-minute victory.<\/p>\n De Minaur overcomes Lehecka in Washington:<\/p>\n \u201cI dug really deep. I didn\u2019t want to lose having a match point in the second set and hitting a double fault,\u201d said De Minaur. \u201cI told myself I was going to struggle to sleep at night, so I better do everything I can to try and win that match. It was a tough, tough match.\u201d<\/p>\n With his 39th ATP 500 match win since the start of 2023, De Minaur tied Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> for the most victories at that level during that period.
