{"id":348981,"date":"2025-12-14T22:28:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-14T22:28:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/348981\/"},"modified":"2025-12-14T22:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-14T22:28:16","slug":"trumps-national-security-strategy-aligns-with-putin-and-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/348981\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump&#8217;s National Security Strategy Aligns With Putin and Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s never a good sign when the United States\u2019 national security plan is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/russia-us-security-donald-trump-vladimir-putin-moscow-nato\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">praised by Russia<\/a> as being \u201clargely consistent with our vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut that\u2019s the bizarro world we\u2019re living in, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump\" data-tag=\"donald-trump\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> and his administration continue to embolden our autocratic adversaries and alienate our democratic allies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThis is now official American policy, delivered in the form of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/2025-National-Security-Strategy.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">newly released National Security Strategy<\/a> \u2014 a directional document issued by every administration to announce its strategic priorities and posture to the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFull of Trumpian bluster and contradictions, this document represents a complete break from the world America built with its allies in the wake of the Second World War. It is a red, white, and blue middle finger to the free world. In places, it even sounds like it was written by the Kremlin, framing our foreign policy approach to date as being the result of \u201celites [who] convinced themselves that permanent American domination of the entire world was in the best interests of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThis is a slander and a slur on the bipartisan liberal internationalism that is based on collective security agreements \u2014 among western democracies of all sizes \u2014 to act as a counterweight to autocratic aggression, like Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine. Literally no American administration \u2014 from Truman to Reagan to Obama \u2014 has believed that \u201cpermanent American domination of the entire world was in the best interests of our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThat is, however, a frequent Russian talking point, parroted by useful idiots on the far-right and far-left. The fact that the current Trump administration\u2019s 28-point peace proposal for Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/us-peace-plan-ukraine-drew-russian-document-sources-say-2025-11-26\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">drew from Russian documents<\/a> only highlights the reflexive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/07\/02\/politics\/donald-trump-dictators-kim-jong-un-vladimir-putin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dictator admiration<\/a> of this president. It is now backed up by a material <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-us-troop-drawdown-europe-nato-concern-republican-rebuke\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">retreat from NATO allies<\/a>, a Christmas gift long on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/vladimir-putin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_vladimir-putin\" data-tag=\"vladimir-putin\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u2019s wish list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThis national security plan codifies that the Trump administration finds common cause with the axis of autocrats by advocating regional hegemony as a vision for the 21st century. This allows Trump to parade high-minded words like \u201csovereignty\u201d and \u201cpeace\u201d in ways that dovetail with Russia and China\u2019s preferred direction of the world.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn this vision, the United States leans into its role as the defender of the Western Hemisphere \u2014 which helps explain Trump\u2019s repeated, bleated interest in everything from annexing Greenland and Canada to retaking the Panama Canal, and of course the current threats to the odious Maduro regime in Venezuela (more on that later).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe flipside to Trump\u2019s regional power grabs is an uneasy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/political-commentary\/trump-might-makes-right-america-worst-1235459574\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">might-makes-right<\/a> balance-of-power peace with the other regional hegemons China and Russia. China gets to dominate Asia, with Taiwan a tempting target on Chinese president-for-life Xi\u2019s to-do list. Russia gets eastern Ukraine and a weakened NATO, dovetailing perfectly with the musings of J.D. Vance\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2025\/06\/09\/curtis-yarvin-profile\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">right-wing Svengali Curtis Yarvin<\/a>, whose stated foreign policy vision for Europe is to <a href=\"https:\/\/graymirror.substack.com\/p\/a-new-foreign-policy-for-europe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cgive Russia a free hand on the continent.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDictators throughout history have claimed the pursuit of peace is their only aim. But the peace they advocate is always peace at the point of a bayonet, one that requires surrender under threat of invasion and annihilation. It is a vision of \u201cpeace\u201d captured by the great Mel Brooks in his film To Be Or Not To Be, when Brooks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=64DCO2sI7fI\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">playing Hitler<\/a> in an onstage satire, protests that all he wants is peace: \u201cA little piece of Poland\/A little piece of France\/A little piece of Portugal\/and Austria perchance\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the recent past, the far-left was stereotypically most susceptible to these appeasing visions of peace. But now we see the rise of what might be called \u201ccode pink conservatives\u201d who embrace an isolationist view of the world that doesn\u2019t really give a damn what happens past our shores, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/dont-care-jd-vance-ukraine-183115792.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as Vance infamously proclaimed <\/a>regarding the fate of Ukraine. This is na\u00efve in the extreme \u2014 especially if you believe in peace through strength.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe contradictions are everywhere. As Washington Post columnist Max Boot <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2025\/12\/08\/trump-national-security-strategy-europe-russia\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">points out<\/a>: \u201cThe [National Security Strategy] says \u2018we must continue to improve commercial (and other) relations with India\u2019 even while U.S.-India relations have been wrecked by Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2025\/10\/14\/india-tariffs-china-modi-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">50 percent tariffs<\/a>. The NSS also vows \u2018to maintain the United States\u2019 unrivaled \u2018soft power,\u2019\u2019 even as the administration eviscerates actual instruments of soft power, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2025\/12\/05\/venezuela-voa-voice-of-america-maduro-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Voice of America<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/investigations\/interactive\/2025\/usaid-trump-malaria-hiv-drugs-death\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Agency for International Development<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the days after the National Security Strategy was released, Trump added to the whiplash by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2025\/12\/10\/ai-chips-exports-china\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approving the sale<\/a> of critical Nvidia AI chips to China, undercutting the tough talk about ensuring American leadership in the AI arms race. And those delusional Trump supporters who convinced themselves that The Donald was a dove, are twisting themselves in knots trying to understand his increasing calls for regime change in Venezuela \u2014 without any evident plan for securing the socialist failed state, which only increases the chances of compounding disaster in that already hijacked, once-prosperous nation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt is true that America needs to remember that we are a republic, not an empire. But if we really want to secure peace we need to keep in mind the lessons of history and strengthen ties between democratic republics \u2014both military and economic \u2014 to act as a determined counterweight to the rising autocratic alliance. There is no real security in the ostrich-like isolationist impulse to ignore aggression or empower aggressors via appeasement. As the NATO secretary general starkly warned this week, \u201cConflict is at our door.
