{"id":349185,"date":"2025-12-15T01:15:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T01:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/349185\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T01:15:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T01:15:08","slug":"chilling-end-to-deer-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/349185\/","title":{"rendered":"Chilling end to deer season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On a frigid final day of rifle deer season, Jeff Scavazzo&#8217;s Deer Processing business aims to exceed 1,000 processed deer.<\/p>\n<p>MONTROSE, Pa. \u2014 December 13th, a frigid final day of rifle deer season saw a last-minute boost in business at Jeff Scavazzo&#8217;s Deer Processing near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnep.com\/section\/susquehanna-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Montrose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everybody&#8217;s out, the old saying, if it&#8217;s brown, it&#8217;s down today,&#8221; said Jeff Scavazzo.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a good two weeks for owner Jeff Scavazzo and his staff.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Scavazzo says hunters from across the area brought in 1,068 deer; this year, he expects to exceed that number.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are pushing toward 1000 right now. Beginning of the week when it was really, really cold, a lot of the guys didn&#8217;t go out. We&#8217;re only grabbing maybe 1012 a day, but today we got close to 55 in already.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>From summer sausage, Slim Jims, and kielbasa, owner Jeff Scavazzo says this year they&#8217;ve been able to feed customers and area veterans.<\/p>\n<p>In its second year, the Venison for Vets program, started by Scavazzo, has donated over 900 lbs of venison so far.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d love to see the community come together, and they&#8217;re all rallying behind every time I go to the store, I say, Hey, you&#8217;re doing venison for vets this year? I said, Absolutely, we are. They said, OK, we want to bring 3 or 4 deer over and donate.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As he prepares for a few more donated deer and the last few stragglers to bring in their buck or doe.
