The first victim of the deadly school\u00a0shooting at Brown University<\/a>\u00a0has been identified as a sophomore student\u00a0and vice president of the school\u2019s college Republican club,\u00a0Ella Cook, according to her Alabama parish\u00a0and a former classmate.<\/p>\n

The news of Cook\u2019s death<\/a> was shared during a service at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in her hometown of Birmingham.<\/p>\n

Cook was one of the church\u2019s parishioners who fostered a deep engagement with the community through her frequent service at the church, a priest said during the Mass.<\/p>\n

He described her as a \u201ctremendous bright light\u201d who brought peace and faith to all those around her, according to a livestream shared on the parish\u2019s\u00a0Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cook is survived by her parents and two siblings, he said.<\/p>\n

The coed was the vice president of Brown University\u2019s Republican club, according to former Brown student Alex Shieh, who dropped out of the university last semester.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Cook was one of the only people who dared to associate with him after he came under fire for sending\u00a0a DOGE-inspired email<\/a>\u00a0to thousands of administrators at the school, he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone at Brown who knew Ella, regardless of their politics, found her to be friendly and kind. My thoughts are with Ella\u2019s family. Ella was a promising young leader taken too soon,\u201d Shieh wrote on\u00a0X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She was one of two students gunned down during a finals review session at Brown University<\/a> on Saturday afternoon. The other student has not been publicly identified.<\/p>\n

Nine others were injured during the shooting. Kendall Turner, a student from North Carolina, is the only one listed in critical condition, her high school confirmed to\u00a0WRAL. The other eight have stabilized, and one was discharged.<\/p>\n
