{"id":350456,"date":"2025-12-15T17:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T17:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/350456\/"},"modified":"2025-12-15T17:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T17:22:08","slug":"nvidia-buys-ai-software-provider-schedmd-to-expand-open-source-ai-push","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/350456\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia buys AI software provider SchedMD to expand open-source AI push"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Dec 15 (Reuters) &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/NVDA\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nvidia;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> said on Monday it acquired AI software firm SchedMD, as the chip designer doubles down on open-source \u200btechnology and steps up investments in the <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> ecosystem \u200cto fend off rising competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">The chip designer built its reputation on speedy chips, but it \u200calso offers a range of its own AI models, from physics simulations to self-driving vehicles, as open-source software that researchers and companies can use.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Its proprietary CUDA software, a standard among most developers, is a major selling point for \u2060its chips, making software key \u200cto maintaining its dominance in the AI industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">SchedMD provides software that helps schedule large computing jobs that can occupy \u200da big share of a data center&#8217;s server capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Its technology, called Slurm, is open source, meaning developers and firms can access it for free, while the company \u200bsells engineering and maintenance support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-7hmkaz\">Financial terms of the deal were not \u200cdisclosed.
