It didn\u2019t take long for the Orioles to begin marketing $155M signing 1B Pete Alonso<\/a>. On Friday, the team welcomed its newest player to Baltimore with 19 combined billboards and media walls placed around the city and county. <\/p>\n

Alonso\u2019s afternoon press conference was streamed on the Orioles\u2019 official website, social media channels, MASN+ and MASN TV. The team\u2019s platforms also shared a behind-the-scenes look at his first day. His No. 25 jersey has been available as of Monday for purchase at the Team Store at Oriole Park. <\/p>\n

The team said its Birdland Member representatives have been busy fielding calls from season-plan members and first-time buyers. <\/p>\n

Baltimore\u2019s busy offseason has also included a trade for OF Taylor Ward and the $28M signing of closer Ryan Helsley. The Orioles are also involved in adding starting pitching. They were a middle-of-the-pack payroll team ($165M) last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cMike Elias and Mike Arougheti, my (ownership) partner, and I talked about this before the (Alonso) deal was consummated, and we obviously were very interested in getting it done,\u201d Orioles owner David Rubenstein said. \u201cWe have resources to do other deals, as well, and we don\u2019t have particular constraints. We don\u2019t have any particular limit that we imposed on Mike (Elias). So as long as the baseball rules are what they are today, we can do what we want to do, and we\u2019re prepared to do what we need to do to get the team to be on a championship level.\u201d <\/p>\n

Alonso said the team\u2019s presentation include details on renovations to its spring training facility in Sarasota and Camden Yards. As part of a $400M multi-phase ballpark renovation plan<\/a>, the team will open a premium club next season<\/a>. Other upgrades to the ballpark as part of the project include a new centerfield video board (2.5 times larger than the existing videoboard), rightfield wall display, and upper deck and club level ribbon boards. Those enhancements will be on the same completion timeline as the club space.<\/p>\n
