I’m going to be totally honest. When I first came across this TikTok<\/a> video of a pet skunk<\/a>, it sounded like a horrible idea. As someone who has had my dog get sprayed by a skunk before, I can’t imagine actually seeking one out and bringing it into your house. But that was before I actually watched the video, which comes from TikToker @henry.the.skunk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 29-second video opens with a bed covered in blankets, and the caption reads, “omg, please be honest, is that a bed bug?” After a few seconds, the person filming lifts the blankets, and Henry the skunk is on the bed. He looks around, then walks toward the camera, sniffing. But then, Henry’s sleepiness gets the best of him, and his eyes start to close slowly, and he lays his head back down on the bed. Next, he lets out the biggest yawn and stretches while melting back into the bed. Then he scratches his adorable face before lying back down, and the video concludes.<\/p>\n

We Never Knew a Skunk Could Be so Cute<\/p>\n

The TikTok video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views, likes, and comments. “I hate how skunks are looked down on cause they are viewed as dirty and stinky. They’re just little babies who fart when they’re scared,” TikTok user @sadie commented on the video. “Nobody told me skunks were THIS CUTE,” another TikTok user commented on the video. “Now that’s a cutie patootie. Cuddle it IMMEDIATELY,” commented TikTok user @jade.<\/p>\n

Not surprisingly, being a pet parent to a skunk is not the easiest thing to do. Only about 17 states in the United States allow pet ownership of skunks, and doing so requires various permits, licenses, and health documentation. And most states that allow skunk ownership allow only captive-bred skunks\u2014not wild ones. States where adopting skunks is easiest include Iowa, South Dakota and Wyoming, which require no special permits. States like California, New York, Texas, Tennessee and Illinois prohibit owning skunks as pets under any circumstances. If you’re looking to get a skunk as a pet, make sure to check with your state and local regulations.<\/p>\n
