Tributes and reactions are pouring in after director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead<\/a> Sunday in their Los Angeles home.<\/p>\n

The family of the late TV great Norman Lear shared their reaction. Rob Reiner rose to prominence in Lear’s hit sitcom “All in the Family.”<\/p>\n

“The Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner,” the statement shared with ABC News began.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Norman often referred to Rob as a son, and their close relationship was extraordinary, to us and the world,” the family’s statement said. “Norman would have wanted to remind us that Rob and Michele spent every breath trying to make this country a better place, and they pursued that through their art, their activism, their philanthropy, and their love for family and friends.”<\/p>\n

Reiner starred as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in “All in the Family,” which ran for nine seasons between 1971 and 1979.<\/p>\n

Lyn Lear, Norman Lear’s widow, added, “The world is unmistakably darker tonight, and we are left bereft.”<\/p>\n

Lear, who died at the age of 101<\/a> in 2023, also opened up about Reiner in his 2014 memoir, “Even This I Get to Experience.”<\/p>\n

“To be alone with Rob Reiner is to be in a crowd. His brain and his mouth, like a chain of Chinese firecrackers, are firing constantly,” Lear wrote. “If that sounds like I’m describing a pain in the a–, nothing could be further from the truth. Rob was like that when I fell in love with him as a nine-year-old teaching my daughter Ellen to play jacks. What was great about Rob was that the person, the actor, the director, the friend, the participant, the activist, the star, the husband, and the father all came from the center of his being.”<\/p>\n

Actor and comedian Christopher Guest and his wife, actress and producer Jamie Lee Curtis, also released a statement reacting to Reiner and Singer’s deaths. Guest starred in Reiner’s directorial debut, the 1984 rock documentary spoof “This Is Spinal Tap,” as well as its sequel, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” released in September, which is Reiner’s final film.<\/p>\n

“Christopher and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michelle Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them,” Guest and Curtis said.<\/p>\n

“There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared [and] the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis. We have lost great friends.\u00a0 Please give us time to grieve,” the statement continued.<\/p>\n

Actor Cary Elwes, who starred as Westley in 1987’s “The Princess Bride,” which Reiner also directed, shared a photo of his and Reiner’s director’s chairs on set.<\/p>\n

“No words … ” Elwes captioned the photo post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Actress and singer Rita Wilson, who appeared in Reiner’s 1999 movie “The Story of Us,” remembered Reiner and Singer as “two people who really did make the world a better place” in a lengthy Instagram tribute<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We have been friends since our kids were toddlers attending the same preschool. It’s impossible to reconcile the tragedy of their deaths with the beauty they offered the world,” Wilson wrote in part. “Michele was an enormously talented photographer whose eye applied not only to what she captured on film but also to her own personal esthetic. … Rob was a generous director who loved actors, because he was one himself. He gave actors freedom and trusted our choices.”<\/p>\n

“Our hearts go out to their families with the deepest of sorrow and love. Rob and Michelle, may their memories be eternal,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Journalist Maria Shriver remembered Reiner and Singer in a heartfelt Instagram post<\/a>, calling them two of her “closest friends.”<\/p>\n

“We raised our kids together, from mommy and me on up. We laughed together, we cried together, we played together, we dreamed together,” Shriver wrote. “We had dinner this past week, and they were in the best place in their lives: loving one another, loving their friends, their family, their country.”<\/p>\n

“They loved their kids so much, and they never stopped trying to be really good parents,” Shriver added. “My love is with their family. I\u2019m so sad for them. I\u2019m devastated, gutted, shocked, stunned, and so deeply saddened, as are all of the people who loved them and who they loved. I hope people remember them as two deeply talented, kind, fun, loving, good, patriotic people who loved each other deeply.”<\/p>\n

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama mourned Reiner and Singer’s death in a statement shared on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele,” the Obamas said. “Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen.”<\/p>\n

“But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people–and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action,” the Obamas continued. “Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”<\/p>\n

Fellow director and producer Ron Howard remembered Reiner as “a superlative filmmaker, a supporting colleague and at all times a dedicated citizen” in an X post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Our careers and lives intersected often over the decades from Rob writing the pilot script for Happy Days and then as we each shifted from acting careers into directing and producing,” Howard wrote. “He proved to be a superlative filmmaker, a supportive colleague and at all times a dedicated citizen. Rob will be missed on so many levels. My heart goes out to his family and his many close friends.”<\/p>\n

Director Paul Feig also called Reiner his “true hero” in a post on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“One of my most cherished pictures,”\u00a0 Feig wrote next to a photo of the two of them at a San Diego Comic-Con event. “Rob was my true hero. A true visionary titan and a lovely lovely person. One never knows if it’s proper to post during something as tragic as this. But I just want the world to know what so many of us know in the industry. Rob was the best.”<\/p>\n

John Cusack, who starred in Reiner’s 1985 film “The Sure Thing,” reacted to Reiner and Singer’s death in an X post<\/a>, saying he was “shocked\u00a0 by the death of\u00a0 Rob Reiner –\u00a0 a great man.”<\/p>\n

Actor Josh Gad called Reiner “one of the greatest directors of our time” in a tribute shared on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“He was one of the greatest directors of our time. He was a friend. He was simply a beautiful person,” Gad wrote alongside a photo of Reiner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were two of the most kind and caring souls you could ever imagine. He cared so much for those who had no voices,” Gad continued. “This loss is devastating. I cannot express how much this hurts. Love you Rob and Michelle. Thank you for all you gave us.”<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the deaths of Reiner and Singer.<\/p>\n

Reiner and Singer’s family confirmed their deaths in a statement, writing, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”<\/p>\n

The couple married in 1989 and had three children: Jake, Nick and Romy. Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested for murder and is being held without bail, according to authorities.<\/p>\n
